(because I am using the waveform line as a reference which is also kind of dark and the contrast is bad).
Or if this means that you use a black clip foreground color (waveform color) on the default almost-black clip background color, that itself is probably a bad idea.

Alternatively I guess changing the default clip background color might work but I'm not sure.
I'm also not sure whether this can be done in the Edit > Preferences menu (or if it has to be set per track/clip which would eb no good).
No, the options to change the default clip background color in the Edit > Preferences menu were removed in X3.
