  • Has Anyone Seen this Waveform Bug

I've seen this now in X2, X3 and Sonar Platinum.
When I render MIDI tracks to audio, I see these annoying white vertical lines whenever there's a tempo change in the music.
I've submitted the bug report to CW.
When I zoom in, the vertical lines disappear.  This has no impact on audio, it's just a graphic display bug.

I've not seen that one. It almost looks like velocity or controller data.

I posted something similar a while back.    Seems that when there is a tempo change a lot of strange things can happen.  Unfortunately I often 'draw' tempos, so there can be thousands of changes thoughout a piece.

Yes, it's come up several times lately because it can actually make the waveform appear to flatline when there are a lot of tempo changes close together as tends happen when you draw lines in the tempo view, rather than entering discrete tempo changes only where needed.

The root of the problem is that SONAR uses the musical M:B:T scale as the fixed visual time reference regardless of tempo. This means the waveform has to be re-drawn against a maleable absolute time scale when the tempo changes. Apparently the algorithm for doing that needs some work.

I'm not not happy about it, but glad to know it's not just a problem with my system.  I don't draw tempos in, I usually enter them either one at a time, or as a series of tempos.  So, obviously, the problem isn't just about how one enters tempos but just that that there are tempo changes.  The piece I just finished is an adagio with lots of tempos changes.  I never noticed this problem with Sonar 7 and earlier.

I've seen this as well.  The waveform display anomaly that occurs with tempo changes did not exist prior to Sonar X2 and we've had it ever since.  Every tempo change event creates a "notch" in the waveform display.  The region of the waveform with a high resolution tempo change will display a straight line at low zoom levels, which can be quite shocking the first time it's encountered until the user knows what caused it.

This is very interesting - I just submitted a bug that is probably related to this. Multiple tempos seem to cause slow and jerky screen dragging (if the track view is not maximised and a lot of waveforms are visible) and slow zooming. CWBRN-33991

Cheers, Peter.
