• SONAR
  • what college course is required to learn how to use this monstrosity (p.3)

I think the problem is that entering with a negative tone about needing a "college course" and calling SONAR a "monstrosity" when it's actually a sophisticated and well thought out piece of software kinda gets peoples' dander up. Those who come in simply asking for help, instead of making negative value judgments about a program they clearly know little about, are more likely to get a positive reception. Also, previous "one post + agenda" people do very similar posts, which muddies the waters for legitimate users. I've been fooled a few times.

That said, I agree that he needs more time to cool down and re-enter the dialog if he does actually does want to learn the program.

One thing members should think about is that this forum is unusual because a reply will be forthcoming quickly. We expect this here but in most other forums one can wait days for a response. A brand new member may not know this and post and come back some time later.

If we assume that they are not interested in a solution we do ourselves and the poster a disservice. If a dialog can not at any time be establish its a loss to all of us. We loose nothing if we show patience.

Hey everybody, OP has one post and done. If he was really interested, he'd have said something by now...

Regards,
Dan

Excuse me, but the above quote is not an attack. Please have a little thicker skin. Please cut back on the aggressive words. That is not an attack either.

excuse you, excuse me, at the very least it is making assumptions that because he has only one post and not replied already that he is "done" and "not really interested" - does dan have a time machine? this is also not an attack :-)

No attack intended, only that we should see what the guy knows and doesn't know before flooding him with stuff that won't help. Granted, 14 hours may not be enough time to wait (19 now), but whenever I really want to know something, I tend to check for updates or subscribe to the thread so I can respond. That's just me.

Regards,
Dan

Maybe he's currently taking college courses, learning how to use SONAR, and doesn't need us any more

I think the same could be said about Photoshop, Visio, and a number of software packages.

A quick start guide that shows how to arm, record, and playback a track would be helpful.  Doesn't Sonar have a tutorial like that?  Of course, setting up the interface is always going to vary depending on what you bought.
