But the word choice in the title made the thread go "Hot" already... funny how that works... sorta like "forum rubbernecking"

But if you have some kinda crazy setup you want, Reaper bends like pretzel.

I think I should try to go Reaper way... May be AZCtrl can add some twists to existing bends

I have been using Cakewalk software since 2000 starting with the basic Guitar Tracks and as the product evolved so have I and I have been using Platinum now to produce excellent records.  It is overwhelming sometimes to jump into a complex program like Sonar but I would suggest taking it slow and get your set up in order and start exploring in the basic recording of tracks mode and go from there.  A lot of good tutorials are available on YouTube and I would strongly suggest viewing and taking notes.  Sonar is one of the best DAW's so hang in there !

All the best,

Good advice.

My first ever DAW was Sonar 6 which I bought in 2006.

I also bought Scott Garrigus's Sonar POWER book, took it on holiday and read it from cover to cover before I even switched on my shiny new computer.

The learning curve didn't seem half as steep as I'd anticipated

Lets see how many posts we can get on a "No reply" thread.
This could be a record breaker.
I bet if you look in the members list there are virtually 1,000 of 1 hit posters.
I think most of them google questions, find the forum, create a user name , post and then forget their log on info..
Sonar X1 LE is sort of a sad little program compaired to even 8.5 Pro.
I got it free with my Roland Keyboard , installed it,  and found it missing like 50% of the tools I was used to in 8.5.
It doesn't even come with TTS-1. Just a couple of next to usless synths. But the best thing about it's a handy dandy discount towards the real versions.
Thanks to my free copy X1 LE I now own Platinium and total cost so far is $350. :}

I didn't realize this. I got a copy with my Roland keyboard as well that I am planning to give to a friend for the same reason. He has not used a DAW, so wouldn't miss what he has never seen, but I don't want to feed him to the wolves either. My "problem" is that he has a local friend to him that is a die hard Studio One fan, so he seems swayed by this greatly. I simply told him what he uses won't matter in the grand scheme of things; step one is good 24-bit audio tracks. From the upgrade perspective, X1 LE -> Artist would way out value S1, but being new it always helps to have someone to ask (and I cannot speak to S1, so if he goes that route his friend better know what he is doing ).

At least he didn't mention Reaper. That usually goes hand in hand with the 1 post, "SONAR sucks" motif.

If he is having trouble learning Sonar, Reaper will beat him silly.

LOL, Hey!!! I LIKE Reaper;
John is right tho... if the OP thinks Sonar's learning curve is steep...
I stopped using it as much because it seemed to turn into such a science project.

I heard from a very well informed source that Ikea has been seriously considering the purchase of Reaper, in order to give it for free along with certain popular computer desks kits. Apparently they think that Reaper's DIY approach to workflow and customization fits perfectly within Ikea's corporate culture. Plans are going for deeper modularity, basically providing a list of features and a graphic toolbox for interface design, plus a scripting language that anyone capable of understanding a standard Ikea assembly instructions sheet will be able to use, so any hipster can have his or her own unique personalized DAW, along with some stylish desk that everyone has. New User Guide will be a totally wordless animated graphic multilanguage online document, that will give birth to a new paradigm, WTFM, ("Watch This Fine Manual", not "WTF, man", as some cynics might think), that will render the old RTFM obsolete for good.

I don't want to sound ominous, but I think Cakewalk should be very worried. In the meantime, I cannot sleep at night trying to think of an excuse for substituting my solid wood desk for a paper paste and melamine workstation without my significant other thinking that I lost the little brain I had left. :(
