• SONAR
  • Platinum. Start up a project is slow as in 1min 30 Seconds. RESOLVED

9 Tracks in project 8 are frozen. Quad Core 4, 4 GB Ram. External sound card Focusrite Scarlett 2i4. Starts off with Sonar Platinum (Not responding) along with a box which say Converting. 1 minute 30 Seconds later the project opens. Should point out this is after the computer has been started up i.e cold start LOL Not sure what it is converting considering 8 out of the nine tracks are frozen?

In another DAW the same project but with no frozen tracks and numerous examples of Ozone (CPU Hogs) starts under the same circumstances in 10 Seconds. Yes comparisons are odious and yes we are not talking like for like.

Any help appreciated.

What is it like when the tracks aren't frozen? You mention that it only takes 10 secs in another DAW when tracks not frozen. You're comparing apples and oranges. What Sonar is converting is all the frozen tracks.

OK I'll give it a try but surely a frozen track should be saved frozen not unfrozen on save then refrozen on start up?

Same project no frozen tracks in Platinum took 1 minute and 50 seconds to load. Oh and I still got the box with converting in it so the question is what is it converting as the project is all audio no midi.

I'm not sure. Perhaps the project is corrupt in some way. I'm sure some others will be along momentarily and offer you further help. I'll have a look through the guides and see if there's something I can dig up.

It sounds like the tracks are at a different bit rate/sample size than the project. That's the reason for the "converting" message.

If you can upload the project somewhere I can take a look at it. Its hard to say without knowing exactly what is in the project. Some troubleshooting you can do is to open the project in safe mode. Then try skipping plugins and see if it loads faster. By a process of elimination you may be able to find whats causing the slow load.

Thanks Noel I will do that and get back all audio is 32 Bit, FX used on project are 5 X Ozone, 5 X BT Stereo Imager, 2X CA Amp sims, 1 X Boost 11, 1 X Breverb and 1 X NI Gtr Rig.

One other point I noticed on start up it appears to scan Qin RV which is a Kong Audio soft synth. I used this on one track and bounced it to audio and deleted the instrument and midi track. Raises the question why is Sonar scanning it when it is not present in the project?

That sounds like you still have vst scanning enabled. If so, unless you're adding new plug-ins, I would shut that off. Some of my plug-ins take a while when scanning at first install or when I add things. It's possible that's what causing the slow load time.
