Good ASIO drivers??
Is there any other available other than ASIO4ALL?  If so, where?
The only ASIO drivers I have access to are ASIO4ALL and my interface's ASIO driver, which is a Pod Studio UX2.

say no more. I thought so, Haven't you ever considered buying a proper audio interface that is well known to work smoothly with Sonar?  You keep complaining that things are not working. There is a solution.

Sonar works best with ASIO drivers. It is rare that it will run smoothly otherwise. asio4all is not ASIO, it is a WDM wrapper that fools Sonar.
So if your planning on doing serious work with Sonar your first purchase has to be a good audio interface/ There is plenty info about the topic of buying audio interfaces.

I wasted a few year myself battling with a similar situation when I first started out. My problem was a Sound Blaster Audigy.
I sincerely hope you make the decision to consider upgrading your audio interface to one that has "well known" ASIO drivers.

And the UX2 isn't a "proper audio interface"?!  It also has ASIO drivers, BTW.
I never said it doesn't work with Sonar for me.  It does indeed, but I want to monitor through speakers, not headphones.  The damned ASIO4ALL are the drivers that keep failing.

The UX2 is fine but do yourself a favour and uninstall all traces of Asio4all.

We've found more and more of late that just having it on a system with another ASIO driver can cause lots problems.

Once you've done that see how it's runs and if you still have problems get back here. After you uninstall Asio4all do a reboot just so you start with a clean memory.

BTW I don't think Cactus intended to insult your equipment choices. He's a very helpful forum member. Sadly the written medium can't convey all we mean but we can easily infer things not really said.

I agree with above advice. Remove asio4all, reboot, and get the latest ASIO drivers for your ux2. You will probably notice a difference in stability.
Best of luck.

I think Cactus toned his last post down a bit, so I toned down mine, but I don't think it is right to imply that the UX2 is not a proper interface.  I've been using it for years and it has always worked fine in Reason and Samplitude and, as I said, Sonar.

I'll try the ASIO4ALL remove and UX2 refresh.  I want to buy studio monitor speakers soon anyway and the UX2 has balanced outputs for them.

As someone who fought the "proper audio interface" setup for too long, there is much wisdom in the above advice to focus there first.

Yes I edited my post after reading it as I'm not the best at writing and sometimes my words come across in the wrong "tone" of voice. I always try and be positive but it's hard when your a bad typist :)
Sorry I assumed the only reason you were using asio4all is that your device did not have proper drivers. I see now why you are doing it that way.
I guess the situation is your interface does not work in a certain way for you, right?

So I guess that was my original train of advice. First get what you have running smoothly and spend your money there if better components are required. If my assumption is correct your using asio4all because your using your computer speakers via on board sound?  If so yeah,  buy those studio monitors first.

For now just plug your computer speakers into the headphone output of the interface.

No.  The problem is not really the interface.  It was a controller error.  I've since replaced the controller, but I still get the error messages that I asked about in this post:

http://forum.cakewalk.com/Input-Error-Lost-Controller-m3242225.aspx

As I said, I've since replaced the controller but have the same issue.  In fact, the only way I can use the controller is through the ASIO driver in the UX2 interface.  Perhaps you could offer a suggestion to my problem in the link I posted.  I'd appreciate any help.  My plan right now is to get new monitor speakers and run them off of the UX2 outputs and not use ASIO4all at all anymore.  Does that sound like a good plan?

Thanks

I don't remember which audio interface your using but I seem to recall your having issues. A fast PC won't really be the answer, the fastest PC on earth is no substitute for good ASIO drivers.

The either/or brigade is out again.
Things will run a lot better on a more powerful PC than a Duo Core i3. An i7 PC will make a huge difference. With a new PC he's likely to get faster and larger memory and disk space with the package (he's not just talking about CPU upgrade he's talking about a new PC). Sonar right now needs an i5 as a minimum requirement. Of course other factors can dramatically improve the situation (if you need a new audio interface get one) as well but if you have i3 it's time for sure to at least think about upgrading soon...
