  • Why is Cakewalk advertising for Cubase?

I followed the link from Cakewalk's recent e-mail for "How to use SONAR's Mix Recall"...

I suppose I shouldn't be too surprised...since the link is to a non-Cakewalk hosted site...but still...Cake provided the link...and the page also presented, not just one, but three ads inviting me to Cubase.

(You just can't get good help anymore...)

Those could be target ads based on your browsing.

The Cakewalk and Steinberg guys have been known to hang out together...that's how things like VST3 tweaks happen.

People from other industries are always surprised at the degree of camaraderie among music industry companies. That's probably because no one makes any money from it, so you might as well go out and have a beer together

No one making money! No wonder the hover (flying) car never quite makes it to production.

It is nice to be important, but it is more important to be nice

That's not true. Ableton are making serious bank. Imageline, despite their free FLstudio upgrades, are also well off and make tons of r&d. Of course, we're talking about companies that are aware of what the current market wants. There's been some steps taken in the right direction lately for CW, but so much more needs to be done.

Actual URL and/or screenshot so we know far more specifically you are talking about?

Almost certainly targetet ads nevertheless. If you get porno adverts next time remember what you were up to in the early hours of the morning...

Last I checked, Askaudio.com was a third party site.

I suppose CW could have put a warning in the email to ignore any non-CW products that might appear on the same page.

Better yet, since the ads appear on the right-hand side of the screen, CW should perhaps have given the instruction to cover the right eye when looking at that page, thus increasing the odds that non-CW ads are blurred on the periphery.

Or, you can use a plugin like Ghostery to block the ads.  Simple.

So much more? In whose opinion? What the current market wants? Mostly we(market) want choices. But to say we(users) want Sonar to be just like every one else(what the current market evidently wants) is not something they have ever tried to be. Frankly, there are more than a few of us who like the CW model just as it is. They focus on what we, the Sonar users want, and try to improve on delivery of those wants. I like to repay that loyalty, and not ding them at the end of the post.

And that's not even getting into the features we keep getting monthly.

Go and have a look at the problem reports and feature request forums. Are they empty? I don't believe what JodD should be taken as a 'ding' otherwise he would have said it is all going in the wrong direction. Nobody can argue any DAW is perfect either.
