  • How Long Should The New Update Take To Download? (p.3)

Just a tip for those who has problem installing, it *could* be permission problem. I know, it seems obvious since my Windows DAW only has one account (primary used) and it is already assigned as administrator, however running the application as administrator makes sure I run trouble free installation. Even when I log in using administrator account, Windows keeps asking often time that I need administrator right to perform many things (like copying files to specific folder). So, when I saw new update available, I quit Bandlab Assistant, then re-open it as administrator before updating. I believe at some point of the installation / update, the installer needs access to certain folder which requires admin right. I suspect this is where many people get "stuck". Same thing with CbB installation. I did not let the installer open the program for the first time after installation process, instead I close it then re-open (for the first time after installation) as administrator. Then I continue doing next steps like re-scanning VST, managing plugin layouts, etc. Everything is trouble free that way. Once everything seems run perfectly, then I close CbB and run as usual. Just a tip, hope it helps.

Good tip, James, I'll hopefully remember it. We must always remember that Windows is like an overprotective parent. Except in Windows 10, where it is more like an obnoxious uncle. Fortunately, I only have to contend with the overprotective parent.

It would be nice if Bandlab would provide some guidance on possible installation issues. I hope we hear from them on why so many had problems with this update. They have been amazing so far, especially considering this is a free product. But since they have indeed taken on the continued life of Cakewalk, they must know that its users have huge expectations. Hey, wasn't that a book by Charles Dickens?

Did you try temporarily disabling your antivirus/security program before install?  Helps for me in most cases.

John, I did try that, it didn't help. But I have never found MSE to cause problems in this regard. But I did get it installed at any rate. The only thing is, I lost all my configurations, since I uninstalled the original CbB. As a result, the noise that has been plaguing me has returned, and I don't know why. All in all, I should have never updated. I need to go back to my former MO, which is, don't update just for the sake of updating. If it ain't broke, don't fix it.

I know what you mean.  I wasn't eager to update either, for that very reason.  I didn't want to "upset the apple cart" because everything was working so well with X3. But I held my breath and did it.  Fortunately, for me, it wasn't a big deal.  IMHO, the DAW is awesome.

Look, it's should not be THIS HARD to update software. I tried again a few hours ago. I did all things mentioned here that might help.Logged out of the assistant, logged back in. Ran as Admin. It simply say's Downloading and nothing ever happens. Still have Version 24-04-0  ( yes 24-04-1 is the latest )
I'm sure they will sort this out. I can only think of the thousands of people out there getting totally turned off Cakewalk by Bandlab right now.

SO I followed the pathway and found where the downloads go. You can see in the address bar of my screen shot. There was a Cakewalk file from today. When I clicked it said it was already in use. So I closed the Assistant. And When I clicked I got this

SO does anybody know how big the file is supposed to be? You can see below how big mine was.

SO I deleted them all and I'm running the whole thing again.
There does not seem to be an option on what you download as far as I can tell. You can see it is downloading a file called instruments. That's what you get if you click the big green download button. I just did that with this folder open after I deleted the originals. Both the Cakewalk.exe and Instruments.exe are back but right now show as 0 kb.
Oh , look at this,, The assistant was showing downloading but as I typed this it now shows installing.. I just looked in the above folder and Cakewalk.exe is now 5,644 kb. The instruments are 152,602KB SO why was the versions above totally different file sizes. both of them?

And now the assistant shows nothing happening just like before.
