  • Sometimes I can't bring up Note properties

Sometimes, just totally intermittently, in Sonar X3d when I right click on a note instead of bringing up Note Properties it selects the note and then gives me a right click menu like as if I right clicked somewhere in the white space, which I absolutely didn't do.

After a bunch of messing around, trying a bunch of times, closing the staff view, reopening, two or three times, eventually I can right click the note to bring up Note Properties.

Is this just some kind of bug or is there something I'm not understanding? I think it happens mostly on longer notes, like ones that are held for at least a whole note.

Right-click with the Smart tool has been Delete since X1. Double-click (left button) should open properties. Right-click with other tools seems to reliably bring up properties for me, but if you're going in to note properties that much, there's probably a better way to edit whatever parameter it is the you want to change.

I wonder if my settings from 8.5 carried over then becuase right click with the smart tool definitely doesn't delete notes... And honestly most of the time it does open up Note Properties, just not always... It's so weird... And I think the majority of the time I'm on the smart tool, and sometimes on the select tool. Either way it seems to have the same randomness of whether it will open note properties or not...

BUT I'm curious... Lets say I wanted to change duration of a single note, which like 90% of the time is what I'm going in there for, and the other 10% of the time is usually to check/change the time, pitch or velocity of that one note... But to change duration, is there a better way off the top of your head? I've been doing it this way for as long as I can remember, Maybe even before Sonar when it was just Cakewalk Pro Audio.

I'm not 100% sure about this, but, see if it makes any difference exactly where on the note it is that you right-click; towards the top or bottom half (assuming you're zoomed in enough).

Absolutely! Just drag the right end of the note with or without snap enabled, depending on what you want to accomplish. If you really need to enter a epcific value, you can di that in the Event Inspector module in the Control Bar after selecting the note.

No I tried that, I even tried zooming as far in as it would let me (not very practical of course) and right clicking all over the damn note haha. When it works it works, when it doesn't, it just doesn't.

Interesting... I'll give that a try when I get home... So I assume that would drag it between 1/16th, 1/8th, 1/4, 1/2 and whole note length? That would rule...

It will drag to an tick value if snap is off, and to (or by) whatever resolution is specified in the global snap setting in the Control Bar or the PRV-specific snap setting if it's enabled (see the grid button at the upper right corner of the PRV).

Sounds like you might benefit from opening up the PDF Ref. Guide, and have a browse through the introductory part on basic functionality of the various views.

Yea probably not a bad idea haha. I basically have had the same workflow for the last decade plus. Every new version I maybe pick up one new thing... Maybe it's time to learn a thing or two ;-)

So I just got home and tried it and all it seems to be doing is dragging the note around. Again I'm in staff view and working with one note at a time... I'm using the Smart Tool. Is there something else I might be doing wrong? Dragging the note from any portion of the note just drags the note. Doesn't lengthen it.
