Create a Restore Point then go back to before the Slate Trigger install.
 
If everything works fine, then there's your answer.

Sweetwater tech has to sort it out 
 
 
Looking at an existing recent project, the external return insert showed "none" which is not what it was saved at, but the dropdown menu allowed it to be assigned to the full range of existing inputs.

Got it sorted with Sweetwater tech.

Could you tell us what the issue was? 

Hi all. I'm having quite a bit of trouble trying to add external inserts. I'm using X3 but I haven't been able to find options to add external inserts anywhere in the software. I've read the documentation on the cakewalk site that says the external insert option can be found in the drop down menu from the FX bin, but every time I try this it's not there. Any suggestions? Are external inserts only available in more advanced versions of X3? Is there something in preferences that needs to be enabled?

The External Insert plug-in is bundled with X3 Studio and Producer.
