Any company that targets a particular demographic for a survey (other than simply their customers) is biasing the result towards the answers they want before a single question is asked, which makes the survey pointless anyway.
Companies do this all the time, and it's not pointless at all. Even Cakewalk. I got a survey recently (5/20) from them asking me why I had not upgraded yet. They were looking for folks like me, and not the general user base. So in this case, they might have been shooting for some specific user base as well (no idea which, though).
Also, I think people are unintentionally falling for the "Hawthorne Effect", which means people are observing increases in satisfaction and productivity just by the mere fact that a company is making a measurement (i.e., a survey).
