If hes getting that error on creating a new project the metronome dll is not registered for some reason or he has a bad grooveplayer dll. You can do this from an an admin command prompt:

regsvr32  C:\Program Files\Cakewalk\Shared DXi\Groove Player\GroovePlayer.dll

this should register the metronome and make it work again.
The version of my GroovePlayer.dll is 2.0.0.2 date 2/15/2016

Ahhh... thanks Noel! That sounds like the fix!

We tried registering it but didn't think to do it from admin...

Sending him this now...

He has not yet tried to re-register the dll and is doing so now, but i thought to post this...

He re-downloaded/installed via assistant and again it apparently corrupted grooveplayer.dll again.

Is this the powershell issue i recall reading elsewhere on the forum?

String should be: regsvr32  "C:\Program Files\Cakewalk\Shared DXi\Groove Player\GroovePlayer.dll"

Properly notated string worked... metronome in CbB is fine here.

Still not working for my friend.

Unintalked/reinstalled CbB
grooveplayer won't register.
Over-wrote dll with saved copy that was working
Used piwershell (admin)

Executed regsvr32 command line and it fails.

Should the quotes be used enclosing the path/filename?

Check if the file actually exists in that exact place.

Thanks Chris...

Yes, all is as should be. Grooveplayer is in it's folder in shared dxi... same place the x3 installation placed it.

It works fine in x3 until CbB installation where the error message regarding registering grooveplayer occurs.

Then it doesn't work in x3 or CbB...

Over-writing it with a fresh copy of the dll is unable to register it.

Some questions... my feeble memory gets confused.

Win7
Using standard piwershell command prompt failed.
Then he tried using the admin version
Also failed.
Tried changing directories but in the admin prompt it would not change to the folder.
Unless i'm mistaken, it shouldn't matter if the full path is given, but nothing has worked.
He restored to a pre CbB restore point to get x3 working again.

Very frustrating...

I'm still on 32-bit windows, but this just striked me: in 64-bit windows do you still register files with "regsvr32"?

Here's the way I'm working around the metronome issue:
(1) Route Metronome to a bus other than my master.  It's all alone on that bus.
(2) On that bus, click "Bypass FX Racks of This Type" and "Bypass FX Rack".  Leave it this way.  (i.e., don't toggle)
(3) On all other tracks (and my master bus) re-enable the FX Racks.  But leave "Bypass FX Racks of This Type" checked.  (This is non-intuitive.  It seems like the individual racks would still be bypassed, but they're not.)

For me, toggling the FX Bypass was only a temporary fix for the metronome.  When I reopened my project, it was gone again.  But the above method is surviving closing Cakewalk and coming back later.

Hope this helps somebody...

Guys the metronome issue Keni posted is definitely fixed in this update. He already confirmed to me its fixed.
If there is another issue please post a different message with a clear recipe to reproduce it to avoid confusing different issues. I'm not aware of any other issues with the metronome that still exists.
