I have experienced the dreaded "Everett Update Drum Map Issue" and have now replaced my .exe file as suggested here
http://forum.cakewalk.com/FindPost/3230840 . So far so good.
What I am wondering, though, is
how will I know when it is safe for me to start using the CCC again? A couple of other thoughts I have had as a result of this experience:
1) New updates could be noted as Beta versions until the dust settles a bit. This allows those techies that like to test out the latest features to participate in the product development while the rest of us enjoy a relatively reliable product. I will be waiting at least a week or two after any update is announced before updating from now on.
2) The new naming convention is really problematic. Now instead of typing X3e we need to type Platinum Everett, or worse yet Professional Everett. There is an old adage in QA: Nothing creates more arguments than "naming conventions" so I know there will be many views on this. However, it appears that the marketing department made this decision at Cakewalk. It does seem that names rather than numbers is all the rage in software these days. It is highly likely that in the future we will look back at this "long name" era and feel really embarrassed about this.
Cheers,
Richard
