Hi,
 
Cubase 8 has a thing called Midi Tempo Detection in it that has just been released. Basically I can play piano and record the midi notes and then Cubase will find the tempo across what I have played and create a tempo track for it. So if I slow down whilst playing the tempo track will slow down etc etc.
 
Is there away to do this within cakewalk?

So I have been looking around and found the "Process > Fit To Improvisation" this appears to do it to a degree but its very temperamental. I don't quite understand how it works I can't seem to just record something I play and then run "Fit To Improvisation" I seem to need to edit the midi file before it will do it which is ideal.
 
Can anyone advise please?

Fit Improvisation needs a sacrificial guide track that has one and only one MIDI event on every quarter-note beat. This track can be created from a copy of your recording, but it does take some time to do that, and can be problematic if the recording doesn't have an event on every beat. There's also a 3rd-party app that a forum member wrote that does essentially the same thing, but allows using smaller beat divisions:

Another option is to render the MIDI to Audio using a patch with a nice fast attack and decay (or even a drum synth), and use Audiosnap to Set Project From Clip.
 
Or - my preference - use Set measure/Beat At Now to do it manually, setting as many or as few points as necessary to align the timeline to the performance.
