The update cycle as it stands could use refinement as each update is forcing me to undo unwanted installation changes. The Cakewalk Content folder shows up on the C drive and the picture cache went there last update. Too many "surprises" to deal with. As I rebuild the machine from scratch this weekend I am seriously debating not reinstalling Platinum.

I understand why people want to do custom installations, but I guess one reason I have so few problems is I just say "yes" to defaults for almost all programs (not just SONAR) because it seems to make them happy . The only exception for me is putting content on a big honkin' hard drive so the C drive has space for the programs themeselves.

Part of this may be due to my coming from the Mac all those years ago, where you just click install and that's it...you really don't have any choices at all. I always thought that helped contribute to the Mac's stability, so I kept following the same path when I added Windows to my computer repertoire.

None of the bells introduced in S-Plat have been of interest to me and this is no different. I don't need a drum replacer, nor a MIDI pattern brush.

I want my bread and butter workflow to be a pleasure. I need a simple and clean solution to MIDI editing so I don't have to faff around w/ the mouse trying to find the magic pixel to get the cursor to change to the tool I need, or switch tools again and again, often striking out completely. What a complete workflow killer.

Don't agonise over it every update. Just leave everything in its default location and use mklink to move the actual files to other drives, linking back to the default locations. Fixes all the problems, whether its content like loops, plugins or samples it all works fine. No need for registry edits that can get overwritten either.

Though I have spent plenty of money on things like Trigger 2 and Slate VCC which, IMO, are still far superior to SOME of the new features in Sonar, I welcome the fact that the Bakers are now constantly evaluating the build and assessing issues on a monthly cycle. Small steps will get the job done much more effectively than large leaps once a year. And when Drum Replacer finally replaces Trigger (semi-pun), I'll be happy to embrace it and just keep on trackin'.

Most noticeable to me has been a massive increase in general stability inside Platinum. Everything else is a bonus.

Good work Bakers.

Thanks Andrew, since you asked :)....cool but I could live without most of this but now I would like to see stuff that helps with the workflow...like real important fundamental stuff:

My top 3 dream features/addons:

1: shortcuts (like shift + T / shift + A ) to collapse/expand all or selected tracks take lanes / automation lanes, if no track selected/active, these shortcut will effect all tracks that have takelanes & automation lanes....
This one is a real pain as it is now, becaus there is no way to collapse/expand them at once, only way is to one track at time, current functionallity forces me to keep all tracks takelanes/automation lanes open and i have many tracks with take/automation lanes, it looks sooo messy, have to scroll up snd down alot to navigate thru the tracks... Please make this feature

2: more visible highlighted active track/ selected track needed.
Its hard too see an active track in track view and console view, its impossible to find/see the the active track right now and also see same track in console view easily (I run on 2 screens, console view on 2'nd screen) , workaround now is if you solo the track in track view, the way to find the same track in console view is look for which track is solo'ed (green (S))
So, a more visible highlighted track (whole track/console track ) would be awesome, as it is now, a blue track name background color is really not enough...
This one could be customizeable in options menu, how visible highlight, what areas and so on...

3: better difference between take lanes and regular tracks, they look the same..

Small features but with big positive workflow impact IMHO

Maybe these features won't sell new sonar copies but these will make me (or other users) stay with sonar.....Think about that...

(Don't tell me to feature request these, already did, no effect :( )

Thanks for reading...

...and Andrew, please respond to this, (I wrote all this on my phone, do you know how hard it is to write this much on a phone? :)) thanks

I would like to see more improvements and features on the core side of the Sonar programm instead of plugin development and fx-chains.
My instruments, sounds or fx are already covered by the current sonar or good 3rd party plugins.

The features forum is full on good requests of core Sonar features to enhance workflow and usabilty and it will be more day by day. I would wish that more attention is paid to these user requests.

I agree.  Everything I need/use, except for Ozone 5, is incorporated in Sonar.  I don't need any more drums, effect chains, etc.

That's the same way I do the installs, without the Mac background.

Ok, I'm a noob, but sheesh! Some of you seem like a bunch of whiny bratty kids. If Sonar can't be all things to all people, then somehow it's not worthy of existence, and should be taken out back and shot(hyperbole is nice in small doses IMO). We have many choices in Sonar as to how to execute whatever it is we are doing. I mean I almost fell out of my chair when I printed out the shortcuts doc. I was expecting at most a front and back dealio. What I got was 5 pages! So, I'm not a power user, not a fanboy, and after researching(and spending money on) the different ways of producing music on my own, I ended up here. When I was working, I never accomplished anything in Sonar. Now that I have the time to learn, I am amazed each and every day at the "power" in my hands.

When I look back at my life, I see some good, some bad, and a lot of in between. It has made me who I am for better or worse. I try to keep things on the better side. All that to say, when I look back at CWs existence(remember DOS?), I see the same thing. A few missteps along the way, but lessons learned. They have a nice healthy view of client relations and as time passes, they trim, and cut, and prune, and fertilize(new features), and here we are....Sorry, I should have used baking terms!

Getting too much stuff from Cakewalk is the best problem to have. No one has to download it. If it came at the expense of stability then I would feel differently but it hasn't.
