1) What's the difference between VST and VSTi?
2) In the Rapture install, I'm prompted once for VST and once VSTi. Should I use the same thing (Vstplugins)? If not, what do I use?

My mistake, brain isn't working. Rapture!

Point the Rapture install to the VST folder and Sonar knows how to decipher between the vst effects and the vsti instruments.

Virtual Studio Technology.  VSTs can come in the flavor of an effect, instrument, or MIDI effect.   Typically effects are referred to as VST and virtual instruments as VSTi.  However, it's pretty common to see users or companies refer to an instrument as just VST.

Since Rapture does not have an Effect only dll, it's just nomenclature referring to the actual instrument.  No difference, just forgot the i.

So, in effect, SONAR does not have separate folders for effects vs instruments. But other daws might. I think I got it now. I just got confused when the Rapture install asks twice, and uses different terminology for each.

I could be wrong, but i think it's asking where you want to install the application, documents, LFO waveforms, etc... (usually C/Program Files/cakewalk.

I think the next thing is asking where you want to install (or place) the actual .dll plug-in - Rapture comes as a standalone version, and a plug in to be used inside DAWs.
