Hi marky-

Have you tried your rig with other DAWs? Is it only Sonar that is hanging?

"It doesn't happen on any other bit of software. " Well, use any other bit of software then and stop sucking on "satan's balls"

Good luck Dude.

Whew, you guys really see hangs for that long? That's just crazy! The only time I get a Sonar hang is when I use Sonar 64. The teleport server will not close unless I bring up task manager and close it myself. Other than that, with what I do, I have no need or reason for Sonar 64...so I stick with Sonar 32 on Win 64 and barely ever get a crash unless I do something I'm not supposed to.

As a matter of fact (God please don't let me jinx myself) Sonar has not crashed on me due to an actual fault of Sonar since the last patch was released. I kid you not. The only time Sonar crashes on me religiously is when I try to change samples with Steven Slate Drums 4.0 while audio is playing. That crashes Sonar every 3-5 times. As long as I stop playback and THEN change samples, it won't crash. Other than that, Sonar never crashes on me. Even after the Slate drums make it crash, I can just start Sonar right back up. If you are using 64 bit Sonar, try 32 bit just for the heck of it to see if what you're seeing now stops.

If you need 64bit (like I do) 32bit is not an option.

Understood, but if you are having issues that are hanging for long periods of time and you've tried everything to make them stop, x64 bit Sonar is the first place *I* would look due to how it's crashed and hung for me. I still think there's something weird with that teleport server thing. Every single time I've ever crashed 64, that thing hangs forever until I physically shut it down from task manager. It's done it on 3 different machines running different hardware. I believe my issue to be with 3rd party plugs though because I don't recall 64 crashing when using "all Sonar" VST's and VSTi's. Whatever the case, the only time I've had long hangs is when I've used 64. I'm not saying to abandon it, but I'd definitely see if the same stuff happens in 32 bit "just because".

Hey Dude,

Only ever had this problem since switching to 64 bit but the thought of losing 4.5 gb of RAM just puts me in a catch 22 situation.

*massive sigh*

*lets hope X2 will address this satanic nightmare of crashes*

Meanwhile I'll use my various workarounds of 6 projects per one project, freezing synths, bouncing audio, saving every change and scouring the Internet in my quest for a Sonar 64 bit stable system.

I have to be a part of a seminar on sound design at the Barbican in London in September for the London Animation Film Festival, lets hope nobody asks me any questions on what kit I use as at present I cant speak very highly of X1 on 64 bit :(

Danny, agreed.... Bitbridge is a nightmare, I fully advise switching to JBRIDGE if you are having Teleport Server issues. That seemed to smooth my aches and pains with some aspects of NI Komplete.

Yeah, thanks....I did switch to J-Bridge a while ago and it definitely helped with that issue. My only issue now is I have afew old DX plugs that I absolutely love that of course won't work in x64. LOL! Always something. :)

If I understand correctly, after a crash Sonar won't restart. Suggestion: After Sonar is closed, go to Task Manager. Look in Processes and stop any Sonar processes. (Even when Sonar is not listed in Applications, a process can still be running.) Then it should restart.

I think the point of this thread is that Sonar can't be killed from task manager.  I have the same problem.

Hello Markyzno.
I have the same problem. Have you finally found a solution?

One work around to get SONAR started again (fairly quickly) is to log off and then log back into Windows.
