Wow. This sounds interesting but is way over my head. I'll be needing that "SFZs made simple" article.
Be sure sure to start with "this is an SFZ, and this is what it is for, and this is what it does... etc." LOL

A SFZ made simple, would be awesome. I understand what they write, but have never tried myself, due to lack of knowledge. And the lack of knowledge is massive, so a simplified version would make me dare take the plunge into the unknown

So, I can make my own little sfz synth and load it with my custom samples? This is wonderful. So many possibilities come to my mind: by extending the range of instruments, I can make: an alto trombone...hecklephone...bass trumpet...bigass tuba...
This should be fun!

Not sure I'm geeky enough to pull something like this off.

Well, so much for your inability to geek as needed

Yes

Here http://theremin.music.uiowa.edu/MIS.html in the "Musical Instrument Samples" menu are quite a few instrument samples, if you do not have enough already.

sfz can do much more than bind a sample to a range of notes. If you want a good book about sfz and Cakewalk synths in general get Simon Cann's "Cakewalk Synthesizers"

Just trying to maintain some humility in the presence of those who will always be light-years ahead of me.
