A bus is short for Omnibus. A conveyance. A buss is used in electrical wiring and was used in the first kit computers. However either way is accepted.

  1. Put your keyswitches in a separate track so they are not affected by transposition and are easy to find
  2. Create custom drum maps for your keyswitches so you can select them by name and not just note number
  3. Put the console and marker views on a second monitor for easy access

To quickly and accurately set an initial tempo for a new project before recording:

- Disable Stop at Project End in Track View Options if it isn't already so you can run the transport in an empty project.
- Start playback with no click sounding, count off several measures in your head, and stop the transport on the next downbeat.
- Shift+M to open Set Measure/Beat At Now, enter that measure and beat and Okay.
- SONAR will automatically reset the initial tempo to make the specified timeline beat fall on the absolute Now time where you stopped the transport.

This works especially well when setting a tempo for someone else. You can just ask them to count, clap or play a steady tempo on an instrument, and start/stop the transport on their count.

Note that SONAR will also insert a matching tempo at the beat you set. This extra tempo map entry won't matter unless you want to change the initial tempo (e.g. to round it to the nearest whole number). In that case, you'll want to delete the extra entry (Views > Tempo).

Brilliant!

To align the project tempo and timeline to a recorded audio or midi track performance, disable the "Snap to Grid" and invoke "Set Measure/Beat at Now" (Shift-M) at the first beat of each measure of the recorded performance.  Start at the very beginning and work to the end.

Yeah, easier done than said.   What if you just follow the steps without understanding them?

So here's how it works counting four measures of 4/4 time, and using Spacebar to start/stop the transport:

- Space! 2, 3, 4, Two!, 2, 3, 4, Three!, 2, 3, 4, Four!, 2, 3, 4 Space!
- Shift+M and enter Measure 5, Beat 1.
- if you take 16 seconds to count the 16 beats between spacebars, you'll get 60BPM.
