My PC running Windows 8 and Sonar X3 no longer is able to recognize my MIDI keyboard!  I even tried to re install the keyboards drivers and it says it's not connected.  The USB ports still work fine with my interface and flash drive/storage devices, so it's a MIDI issue.  Any help would be appreciated.

Thanks

Bad cable? Ran out of Windows MIDI slots?

Does the little kbd icon show up in the system tray?

It's not the cable because the cable works for other things and I've tried multiple cables with same problem.  I see an icon in the system tray that says MIDI Input/Output Activity but it doesn't do anything when I click on it.

Seeing the icon is a good thing. Do you see the kbd in device manager? It's in with the sound devices.

The kbd icon shows up when Sonar opens. I plugged in my Oxygen to verify that when I plug and unplug the kbd, it appears and disappears from device manager, as it should.

Are you turning on/plugging in the controller with Sonar open? If so, close Sonar, turn off/unplug the controller, turn the controller back on/plug it back in, wait a little bit (like 30 seconds or so, open Sonar then check your Preferences > MIDI Devices menu again to see if it shows up in the available devices list.

If I try to turn on some of my devices while Sonar is open they sometimes don't get seen by Sonar. Because of that I always turn on my devices BEFORE opening Sonar (and I wait a little bit before opening Sonar because if I open it too quickly after turning on the devices they may not get recognized).

That may not be the issue but it's worth trying.

Thanks all, but I think I just determined that the keyboard is SHOT!!  It's an old Yamaha PSR 295 and I've been using it for about 10 years.  I tried it on all three of my PCs, including the one I used it to make many songs on in Samplitude and it doesn't recognize it.  Neither does my laptop, which is also configured to work with it.  So, it looks like it's new keyboard controller time for me.  I'm considering this: http://www.sweetwater.com/store/detail/ImpactLX61

Thanks all for your help!

I have an oxygen 49 and can't for the life of me figure out how to shift pitch (not octaves) on the keys.

On my Oxygen (silver) if I hold the Octave up and Octave Down buttons simultaneously I can then transpose the pitch up or down using the same buttons. Hope that helps.
