DR is right around the corner (significantly more capable, I am sure), but with X3 and above you can tap a physical surface with say a dynamic mic lying on a towel nearby, then drag/drop that audio clip into a MIDI track. This will yield no pitch bend data (irrelevant for percussion), and will most likely get only one note (unless make a "tonal kit" as John T mentioned); but for a humanized MIDI track to feed a VSTi (especially for just the kick), this does work. You will need need to slide the MIDI data to the correct note on the drum map being used to fire the VSTi correctly.

Definitely something to try (especially when DR is here) to alleviate the pedal woes.

I alluded to this in post #42 (I think) in response to another post.

Definitely looking forward to the Drum Replacer, though.

The distinction, in terms of effort and efficiency, appears to be that you can get the different Drum Replacer lanes to focus on 1/ specific frequencies and 2/ expected re-trigger rates.

There's almost always a round-the-houses way to do something, what's interesting to me about this is not that it offers something that's never been done before, but that it looks like it'll make it quick and efficient to do.

The more I read here of all the ideas you guys are throwing out, the more excited I become about this software. I've never used MIDI much, but I can see that I need to get up to speed!

This is going to be great!! lol

That video said "Available now" at the end. Hmmm.

And, so it is!!!!!

It's blowing my mind. I have a mixed stereo loop from Discrete Drums that I love, but can't use because the cymbals are too loud. Replaced the kick, snare, tom, and now they're loud enough to achieve the right balance with the cymbals.

And despite my skepticism, it really is zero latency. I guess that's how ARA fits into things. Unless there's some major glitch I haven't found yet with the Drum Replacer, I think it's going to be huge.

hmm... teasers. I know it's greedy but kind of wish for these big feature releases we could get some more in depth vids. I know... probably forthcoming and I'm an impatient obsessive jerk but vids help me understand what I'm getting myself into.

I did kind of notice a bit of flamming with the "blend" which is why I'm curious about the details. I figure there is some kind of adjustable transient/attack alignment involved (like VocAlign). Not just a "well you gotta trim the replacement sample juuuuuust right" which is kind of what that looked like.

Either way it's looking much easier than what we had previously. I mentioned earlier that I had specific material I want to use this on and a convenient way to do stuff like "whoops... drummy dummy made rim hit here and dropped a kick hit here. I'll just yank a sample from elsewhere and drop 'er in" will be helpful. Even that super short promo showed that's gonna be reasably simple.

Thanks, Cakers.

It's a very powerful but simple feature which is the beauty. Doesn't require an hour long tutorial. We have a couple more coming too.
