1-improved CCC
2-a simple or automatic way to extract a tempo chart from an audio track
3-no more updates that would make a perfectly running and rock solid function either unstable and/or unusable
Unless I am not understanding - you CAN create a tempo map from an audio track, using Audio Snap.

Yes I know. The key words were simple or automatic. I have played with Audio Snap in the past and found it difficult to use. Have things changed?
I don't think Audio Snap has changed too much, but I never have used audio snap for anything other than to build a tempo map for imported songs I am building midi-version covers for, so I really have no idea on its other uses. For what I did, I just followed the 3-4 steps that the documentation listed, and it worked fine.
If there is some other way to do it, I am all for it - I was just trying to give you something that you could maybe use until some other tool becomes available. :)
There are zillions of things that Sonar and its components offer, that I may never try, as I am pretty much a keyboard player that fell in love with being able to record songs with crazy numbers of rich sounding tracks.
There are some really good ideas in this thread, and I hope the Cakewalk folks can get an idea from them on the kinds of things users would find helpful for future product functionality.
Here is the documentation steps I followed,to build a tempo map in my project that was synced to an imported audio clip:
To sync the project tempo to an audio clip 1. Select the audio clip(s) that has the desired tempo map.
2. Press ALT+A to open the AudioSnap palette.
3. Click the Set Project Tempo From Clip button on the AudioSnap palette.
The clip tempo map is copied to the project tempo map so the tempo maps are identical.
Note 1: The Set Project Tempo From Clip drop-down list lets you specify at which resolution the clip’s tempo map should be copied to the project tempo. The options are as follows:
Beats
Measures (default)
Clip
Note 2: If multiple audio clips have their Clip Timebase property set to Musical, changing the project tempo will affect the relative positions of the audio clips. When using the Set Project Tempo from Clip command, SONAR will offer to convert the timebase to Absolute.
