This just keeps getting easier :-)

Thanks

Thanks maximumpower...you must live in the NE...as we are getting slammed with TStorms.

Well, I followed the good advise of Mettelus and it worked.

I opened AD2.

Selected a kick drum.

Dragged the wave file into the DR.

I closed AD2.

I started the track with the kick solo'd.

I mixed it to 100%.

The odd and troubling thing is that within five seconds DR started playing random kicks, to the point where it was like popcorn popping.

I changed the mix to 0% and my original kick is there and correct.

Change back to 100% and popcorn.

So, what am I doing wrong?

Thanks.

"Interval" control is too low?

TremoJem: I just read your post and, it sounds like we are both in the same boat. I am having a really difficult time wrapping my head around all this stuff. I mean I've been recording for years but, have just never dealt with this type of stuff before. Hopefully there will eventually be a simple conversion or plugin hosting tool (like Drumagog does) available. Gotta dummy proof it for me Ha ha!!

I tried adjusting everything, including the interval.

No worky.

Rodreb...yes it sucks.

I wish this was all I did.

I mean really...I just sat down to try the Audiosnap feature, after DR failed...why waist time, right, and so I am looking to work on the snare.

I thought to myself that Audiosnap looked really easy, after watching the video.

So I bring up AD2 and even thought I just confirmed my three Kitpiece Paks are installed, I can't find them.

I installed three different snares and I can't find them anywhere.

So, now I will at least try to work with the track and Audiosnap to get the midi conversion done.

Oh, and on the video he speaks to knowing the midi channel of the drum he wants to assign...how the heck do I find that?

LOL

Bill Jackson [Cakewalk]
I just hacked together a little tool that automates the process a bit. I'll share a link. But a big disclaimer: this is not an officially sanctioned Cakewalk utility. It's an unofficially unsanctioned, might break your computer, no guarantees, no promises, batteries not included, Bill Jackson personal hack job. Proceed at your own risk and with caution.

Now that inviting preamble is out of the way:
https://www.dropbox.com/s.../CwDrSfzMaker.zip?dl=0

This utility should simplify the process of sampling drum synths for use with Cakewalk Drum Replacer.
It digests a string of hits in a 24bit wave file and installs them to the Drum Replacer content locations
in the correct format. 32 velocity levels are saved in the multisample. The source file should have 32 hits,
crescendoing, separated by exactly 2 seconds each. Included is a SONAR project that can serve as a template.

Steps:

1. Open included project: "DrumSamplerTemplate.cwp"
2. Insert the drum instrument of your choice and choose the kit you'd like to sample
3. Adjust the repeating MIDI note to play the kit piece that you want
4. Export a 24bit wave

5. Open the CwDrSfzMaker.exe utility
6. Type in a name for your sample
7. Specify a type
8. Click "Browse..." and locate the file you exported in step 4
9. Click "Make It"

At this point, you can instantiate Drum Replacer, navigate to the "User" section in the sample list, and locate your new content.

I hope I'm not just confusing things further :-\.

Bill,
    Thank you for doing this!!!

A few things as I went through this process. I know this is not supported Cakewalk software but I thought I would share my experience in case it has any value to anyone.

- When I loaded the template, it asked me if I wanted to create c:\users\bjackson. I clicked no
- TTS1 is in the template and unless I delete it, I could not find a way to map the midi track to AD2 (even though I inserted AD2)
- When I deleted the TTS1 synth, it created (automatically) a new track called TTS1. I just deleted it
- I added AD2 and mapped your track (from the template) to AD2. Is there a better way to do this?
- Sonar crashed each time when trying to load a new project (I was loading the mixing tutorial to tryout the new kicks). This is after I followed your steps for creating the sample file. I had to turn off my interface so Sonar would unload completely
- I had to try this several times as the 1st time, the exported wave file just sounded like white noise. The 2nd time, there was no sound.
- Sonar crashed on the third try after loading your template. If it makes a difference, that time I did not browse to a directory when the template asked me for a wavedata location
- On the 4th attempt, I did choose a wavedata location (like I did the 1st two times). After creating the wave file and loading the mixing tutorial, Sonar crashed. Hey, at least it is repeatable. :-)
- It worked on the 4th attempt. I think the reason I got white noise the first time is that I messed with export settings. I had changed the sample rate to 48K. This time, I left everything alone. Now I have a new kick sample to choose from!!!

Again, thank you for taking the time to do this. This is some really cool stuff!!!
