I got the job to edit a choir recording of about 15 songs. The choir was recorded with a main stereo mic and 6 close-up mics for each voice (soprano 1+2, alto 1+2, etc.) plus a stereo pair for a piano. To avoid phase issues I have to align the close-up mics to the main stereo mics. I received the delays for each microphone from the guy who did the recording. Now I want to move the clips of each track to the specified value (between 15.6 to 20.8 ms). There are several clips (versions and parts) on each track and I like to move them all about the same amount of time.
 
Is there an easy way to do this? Especially with this short times?
 
This is what I figured out.
You can move multiple clips at once only with the mouse or with the (Process>) Slide command. The mouse movement is not really precise except you set the snap to grid to a desired value. The slide command only allows whole seconds, which is far too long. So to get shorter durations I decided to use Ticks, which can be very short according to the project tempo. This works and is precise enough, but you always have to calculate the number for the Ticks needed for the duration, what is not really intuitive. Hopefully someone has a better workflow, I’ve just started with the project ;)

You can use the clip inspector to set the exact start time of a clip in various time formats including seconds. If several clips have the same start time, you can change the start time of selected clips at once.
 
The event inspector can also be used to set the start time of one or several selected clips. The advantage is that you can use relative time changes even if several selected clips have different start times. To do so, start with a plus or minus for a relative change. The drawback is that it is limited to midi time format.

Because I have to move all the clips of one Track together the clip inspector don work. I also tried to make a clip selection group, but the clip inspector doesn’t show the parameters of the clip selection group but the parameters (multiple) of all the selected clips.
 
 
Thank you for reminding me on the event inspector. I never use it and it's not visible in my control bar. It works similar to the slope command and as you said the drawback is that you can only use the midi time format. It would be very handy if it will take the time format of the timeline and also allows point values for the milliseconds.
 
What I like to do is to avoid the math of converting milliseconds to ticks. I now had the idea to set the project tempo so that the length of Ticks is an even number. Which is 625 bpm to get 0.1 ms per Tick. Than I can type in the desired Ticks. Ex. 176 for 17.6 ms. That works for me, because I don’t need to synchronize the audio to a metronome.
 

Habe you tried Channel Tools? It comes with Sonar (an effect under delay I think). It can add any delay you want to the track. Very handy tool for time aligning, and much better than physically dragging clips.

Align the tacks with a delay is fine for mixing and the Channel Tools are great for that purpose.
But if you’re editing and you don’t align the clips by moving them, the impulses are not aligned and you get in to trouble when you split them. I use for example the main mic tracks for orientation. So when I split all the tracks on an impulse in that tracks, the impulse on the close-up will be cut off, because of the shorter runtime. You can bring them back afterwards, but that is very much extra work. When you align them first you don’t have to think about it anymore.

Put the channel tool on, then bounce to tracks?

Perhaps the mouse becomes more precise when you zoom in to see sample- or tick-resolution? I.e. select the relevant clips, then zoom in on one?

Good point, I had not thought about that.  The idea above of bouncing, or applying effects, to the delayed track would work.  But it does seem like there should be an easier way to precisely nudge the whole track by a few ms.  

Bouncing the tracks with the delay on works and has some benefits. If you don’t have the value how much delay is needed you can easily adjust it by ear and after bouncing all clips start at the same time so that you can use snapping without the fear to remove the ‘handmade’ delay again.
 
In my case there are up to 30 recorded takes per song and to keep the recorded structure I would have to bounce the clips for every take, which takes quite a long time.
For me the trick with the tempo set to 625 bpm seem to be the easiest way if there is no other. With the Tick length of 0.1 ms I don’t’ have to calculate much and with the event inspector I can delay all clips of a track at the same time in a very precise way.
 
I think a good place for moving clips by numbers cloud be the events list, but as far as I know the functionality is very limited.
