Oh... no you don't use the blue button on the Take Lane. Click directly on the clip so it turns gray then Ctrl + Shift + Drag it into the empty lane on the desired track (create the empty lane first). If I understand Brundlefly's post correctly this may do something weird and make it go into another lane but I haven't seen that (but if that's what happens it sounds like a bug... I'll maybe investigate if I have time).

 ok I have them bounced to a stereo track. If I convert to mono, will it combine or separate into 2 takes?


 
You don't need to do that to accomplish what you want. Maybe you are now doing something else. However if you convert that to mono it mixes the stereo track into a single mono track. Probably not what you want.
 
If you want to the two sides of a stereo track to be separated into two mono clips... well I thought you could right click after selecting the clip and there would be a "Split Stereo to Mono" or some such thing but for some reason I am not seeing it on my project. Weird. I'm positive this can be done easily but darned if I can't find where.
