When I (File > Import > Audio) a .wav file the audio track has a blank line and does not play any sound, but says "busy". I can open the same audio file in another program and hear it play, but it doesn't have any sound on Sonar x3.

Does it stay "busy" forever?

Also, is there any chance you are importing a wav file with a time stamp, and that's making it import at some point way far down the timeline? (Scroll and look for it.)

I'm not sure what you mean by "staying busy forever". I have scrolled through the entire recording and there is only a line.

Don't just scroll through the recording, press CTL-End to take the cursor to what SONAR thinks is the end of the project. The file may have been inserted waaay down the timeline.

What Larry's talking about are Broadcast Wave Files, which have an embedded timestamp indicating where in the timeline the file should be inserted. It's a common problem. You have to take off the "insert BWFs at timestamp" option when importing them. Broadcast waves are no different from a normal wave file and have the same file extension (they just have additional metadata inside) so it's an easy mistake to make.

On the other hand, importing at the timestamp is a huge plus when collaborating with others, so long as everyone is using something at zero or close to it for the start point.

Another thought....does the sample rate of the project you're importing to differ from the imported audio?

Thanks, Bitflipper! I never remember the technical details...

@ wingfieled: When you say "...there is only a line" do you mean a flat line running horizontally through the track where there should be a waveform?

Also, what is the source of the wav you are trying to import? What happens when you drag and drop it onto your timeline?
