I will definitely be reading it from beginning to end.  I have a 17 year old that keeps me up at night so there should be no issues with having the time!  LOL
Ah ha! Well, the more time you can spend in the studio making music, the better, right?

LOL, you must know my daughter and any extra time in the studio is always a break.

Believe it or not, the Tascm FW-1884 is a great control surface and Audio/MIDI interface all rolled into one. We almost lost it as an interface/CU but Frontier and Tascam (finally) gave us 32 and 64 bit Win 7 drivers. And it has one ADAT In/OUT for adding more mic pre's.

You can still get one at amazon for $1299. This is still the best bang for your buck (IMO).

I too use the Mackie controller and it works well with Sonar.

I too notice that in Sonar 8.5 I use to loose the Midi connection to my MCU every once in a while, but in Sonar X1 (updates added) I haven't had that problem (Crossed my fingers).

Peace

I wouldn't be atall suprised to see an X class version in the future.
VS-X1 or something like that.....

Hi Scott, I am using the Alesis MasterController as my interface/control surface. It's been working fine for myself and Sonar 8.5 for several years. The only reason I would lust over the V-700 is the ability to do EQ which doesn't seem apparent on the MC. Would there me an advantage to getting just the controller for the V-700 and using my MOTU 8-Pre as the Firewire interface into my computer? Brian Folkes

X2, Windows 8 and a Touch screen.
If anyone takes the time to check my posts you're probably saying" here's that jerk going on about his touch screen again"
   But I really,really love it.
We've got touch support. I don't think any other DAW has it yet. Use it!

Hi Brian,

I would check out the V-Studio 700 forum here on the Cakewalk site before making any purchasing decisions. I'm still happy with it but some are not... http://forum.cakewalk.com/tt.aspx?forumid=42

Although, if you plan on using it with SONAR 8.5, you'll be all set, but it works great with that version.

Thanks for the quick response, Scott. I've noticed that there seems to be a rapid anti-v700 conclave out there in Sonar land. My real concern is while it appears to be discontinued there doesn't seem to be a serious price drop like there was for the Tascam FW-1884 (loved that board but it was overkill for me and I have been trying to simplify my life to no avail). My biggest concern is what happens if I move to Win8 or beyond? Will the hardware and software continue talking to each other? I've been hard pressed to upgrade to Sonar X2 mainly because I 1)barely scratch the surface of what 8.5 can do and 2) I am lazy. While I've got a head of steam going why is it that a well thought out board, like the FW-1884 or even the V-700 or MasterControl, after running their production course are not issued in bigger, better badder versions? They die instead. It doesn't appear that there are many reasonably priced solutions from what I can tell. So my question really is; whither control surfaces?
