Hi Brian,

You'll be fine with Win 8. Roland recently released drivers for the system. And SONAR X2 does work, there are just some issues that need to be addressed. But overall, most of the functions work fine. So it does seem as though Cakewalk and Roland plan to continue support. But I have no official word about that.

As for control surfaces in general... I think they're still viable, but I have no idea why some are not upgraded to better models. I actually like have real knobs and faders to adjust. But there's also the up and coming touch screen revolution. Whether or not touch screens will take over the control surface market remains to be seen. I don't think they'll go away completely, but it's possible I suppose.

I really appreciate your answers! One of my reluctance's to invest in new hardware is if Cakewalk is planning on making use of the iPad as a controller as others have done. Any word on the street, Johnny? Brian

Scott, I have the V-Studio 700 and love the integration.  Sweetwater has a theory that some long-standing issue I have had with Sonar stem from the V-Studio ?O.  I personally question that theory; however, since I upgraded the drivers in the I/O, I have not had many problems.

Do you have any theories or information about this?

(I have a MOTU interface waiting to be tested, but I want to do more testing with the updated V-Studio interface first.)

Looks like there are some other happy users of VS-700 out there, so I'm not alone

I'd only wish the happy users would show every once in a while over in the VS700 forum. There is a lot of negativism going on there, shedding a wrong light on the unit ...

X2, Windows 8 and a Touch screen.
If anyone takes the time to check my posts you're probably saying" here's that jerk going on about his touch screen again"
 But I really,really love it.
We've got touch support. I don't think any other DAW has it yet. Use it!

So how is your studio desk laid out?
If I were using touchscreen then I would need to rebuild everything so that I could reach the screen.

Do you have the screen laid flat on the desk in front of you.
If not then whats the point?
Just curious, I'm sure you could make it work, but how?

im not sure if youve seen any of the touch screen videos released on sonar x2 but they are simply amazing.
one thing that has always detered me away from touch is making small minor adjustments.
its very obvious this is not an issue anymore.

i was part of a group that was one of the first to be using touch screen automation for robotic control of production line manufacturing.
its come a long.long way.

I'm having trouble posting a photo. I hope that the link works.
The normal monitor is mounted vertically above the touch screen mounted at a slight angle horizontally using VESA mounts

Hi Brian... no idea if Cakewalk will develop their own iPad app, but you can already do this with the apps called V-Control Pro and DAW Control.

And there's also TouchDAW on Android.

Hi Konrad... no, sorry... I haven't had any trouble with the drivers myself. What's happening with them?

Although, it sounds like the problem is fixed now since you updated?

Hi joeb1cannoli,

nice pictures. Maybe the touchscreen is a good alternative as a daw controller.
But what with all those fingerprints on the screen? I see you have the cloths next to the screen, so how often do you have to clean the screen?
