  • [SOLVED !!] Everett PRV playback and display issue

Hi all,

Since this last few days (i.e. since Everett installation) I've had issues I've never had before. During editing on PRV the sound will play, but the scrolling PRV view becomes sticky (well, stuck) and I can't break out of it. Audio continues - but PRV hangs, and neither can I edit anything on PRV. This happens on files of any number of tracks - from four to >14. Eventually I have to go to Task Manager to close the program. This doesn't happen all the time, but more than I'm comfortable with.  Playback on console view seems Ok. Has anyone else had this?

I have a fairly standard installation on Win 8.1, Sonar Platinum.

Cheers
Jerry

It sounds like you might have pressed either the scroll lock or the pause key (or both) inadvertently.

.. for CPU conservation mode - I thought that too, but pressed pause again but it didn't affect anything.

However I haven't tried scroll lock.  I'm not familiar with conservation mode - is it a simple toggle with either the pause or scroll lock? Do you have to restart Sonar to complete the operation?

I saw this -

.. but doesn't say about restarting. I'm not at the machine at the moment so I'll try it this evening.

No restart necessary.

Scroll lock literally stops the prv from scrolling

Hmm, scroll and pause don't correct the issue, it still stalls to the point where I can't stop the audio, ending with the white-out screen of doom. So far I've only seen this in three specific files, and not in others. So maybe I have a rogue plug-in. I'll have to sort through all the plug-ins used and see if there's a common factor. I'm not necessarily blaming Everett, but it's only happened this last week.

I'll report back as/when.

Hi jerry,

If you post a project file we can try and reproduce it in case its project specific.

I had a similar problem to what Jerry has listed. It happened once when I accidently opened a project when another project was minimized, but yesterday it happened with 1 project opened. A simple midi drum track using AD2.

The first thing I did was to close and reopen the project and it had no effect.
The second step was to shut down Sonar and empty the picture cache followed by a restart. No effect
I then did a shut down and hard boot. That fixed it and there have been no further problems.

When I saw this problem the audio stream was fine but the screen was only getting graphic updates once per second. I timed it and every second the now time would move with a screen refresh. While it was acting this way the mouse was also lagging. When I would click on the transport to stop it there was a delay in doing so, just like the refresh of the screen. IT almost seemed like a windows problem.

Hi Jerry,

We were able to reproduce the issue with the project provided. The problem occurs with dense controller data. Controller data recorded into the PRV such as Wheel or Modulation coming from a slider on your keyboard can exacerbate the issue.

In the meantime, for those experiencing this issue I recommend not displaying controller lanes in the PRV that are not being edited until this issue is addressed.  To clear the problematic lanes, click the "-" button on the top left of the lane. This does not delete the information, it just hides it. Once the lane is removed, scrolling around in the PRV should work better.

We have a potential fix for this and some other PRV controller editing issues coming up soon. We'll drop it publicly as soon as it passes regression testing. Jerry I sent you something you can evaluate. Please let us know if it addresses your issue.

This kind of attention that CW is showing is fantastic. I have not run into this problem. None the less I am so hyped by how CW has answered these issues.

I know it has to be a lot of work. Just in case you are not sure it really is appreciated.
