I haven't done the test yet but I wonder. I recently checked my hearing in my own studio listening to sine waves and peaked out at 13.6khz. Frightening how diminished my hearing has become in the last 10 years.

I'm going to give this another go, and I've signed up this time.
 
I have also set my QUAD-CAPTURE as my Windows default sound device, just in case it makes a difference... I normally use the Realtek sound card installed in my laptop when listening to every day stuff on the internet and whathaveyou.
 
No, I am throwing in the towel on this... It is just impossible for me to get through the Bronze stage.
 
Disappointed doesn't even come close.

I ran out of time really to do it although I got halfway through the bronze stage with a small amount of corrections. I'm mostly not understanding the questions and not being fully aware of which one is the reference. Although for every mistake you make and one you correct, it's something else learned. It's a good way to certainly train your ears.

Reporting back on this thread...... I finally had the time to get through this and am happy to report that I am Golden Ears #2064!  This was pretty tough.  MP3 artifacts kicked my butt for a while, but after doing some further work and reading on the net I went back to the test and breezed right through it without missing a question.  Plain and simple..... I just did not know what I was trying to hear.  Doing a little project with a stereo .wav track, cloning that track to mp3, reversing the phase on the mp3 track, and playing them both back did the trick for me.  In the out of phase condition it was easy to hear the artifact noise and then..... I knew what I was listening for!  The gold level was also challenging but really........ if you're serious about your production work you should give this a go.  I think it really helped me sharpen my skills.  Thanks Noel!  I'm grateful to have had the opportunity to do this!

Congratulations Dave, I too had a really hard time with the MP3s, but finally got through them. Good idea to clone, reverse phase, and play back to see the differences. I didn't think of that when I was doing it, but I'm sure that would have helped me as well. 
 
I agree that is is good to help sharpen your skills. I need to go back and re-take some of the tests just to keep honing the skills. Much of it isn't really about having great hearing, it's about learning how to listen!

I'm gonna try with and without my hearing aids. They help with high frequency loss and clarity, I don't need much help with volume overall. I can go into a Denny's without having to hold my hands over my ears... Pure cacophony before the aids! I am very interested in the results, but the wife sleeps late on Saturdays so I'm trying to distract myself til she wakes up!

Go for it charlyg!  Another observation......it's good to learn how long it takes you to fatigue your ears.  I found that sticking at it and trying to get it all done at once wasn't the answer.  For me it was better to take things in smaller chunks.  When I would "hit the wall" I would just park it and come back to it when my ears had refreshed.  FWIW this technique seemed to help me.  Have fun!
