A small icon showed up today on my Win 7 64 bit laptop. "Get Windows 10". Cake has been excellent in their working relationship w MS. I'm not going to install this on my DAW but perhaps my laptop.

Any issues expected with X3 or Splat when Win 10 does gets installed on my DAW?

I saw that too and was intrigued. But I assume it means I'll need to re-install everything...yes? What I should do is prepare a new removable drive, and download it to that. OTOH I don't think it's actually downloadable now, but that you reserve a copy.

Also, does anyone know for sure what kind of model Windows 10 is going to use? A subscription model, or something like Cakewalk's Membership model, or...?

Not a good start. Pressed the reserved button, said it reserved my place however the rest of the text disappeared off the window. So much for first impressions!

It will be available starting July 29, 2015; people can reserve their free upgrade today.
You only have until July 29, 2016 to take advantage of this offer. Once you upgrade, you have Windows 10 for free on that device.

You only have 13 months to make a decision... hurry!!!

Hmmm.  Tempting, but I'd want to know that there will be no major compatibility issues with the main software I use before agreeing to upgrade, even for free.

I've registered an interest in it. According to some of the stuff I've read each download will be unique for the computer it's downloaded to (how they'll keep track of that is anyones guess) - and will upgrade like Windows 7 to Windows 8. All the software you have SHOULD be OK and Windows 10 will be free for the life of the machine. Guess a once only for free download model is how they're working.

Checking here...

"For compatibility info, see the Windows 8.1 Compatibility Centre."

So really this is a giant Windows 8.1 service pack, some UI tweaks and other stuff bolted on. So it looks like business as usual... Regardless I'm going to wait 6 months after the release before it goes anywhere near my DAW.

There are apparently significant improvements to audio latency in Windows 10, as it happens.

Being someone who gets along pretty well with 8.1, this is good news for me...

Right I read a little about it here, so my question is, in order to take advantage of it... is it integrated (use existing drivers?) or bolted on (use new driver model/drivers). If it's the latter they will surely allow "legacy drivers" to maintain compatibility (although it will behave similar to 8.1).

Can anybody point to a URL with the specifics?
