Thanks arachnaut...

Is that for both win7/8/8.1?

Keni

Never mind... I just visited the link... Now to discover if it's gonna force updating after installing 10... That will not work for many of us...

Thanks again...

Big software developers/sellers ought to try Win 10 and make certain it runs okay.

So, Cakewalk should do it and display a message that they have confirmed reliability with their code. Then it will be left to the end users individual hardware and drivers at their own risk.

I agree and hope they will let us know for sure. Acoustica has already confirmed that MixCraft 7 runs fine on Windows 10. They've already started testing the software according to support.

Acid 7 Pro hasn't been upgraded since the XP/Vista days and that is the only Sony product I would not have to reinstall.

I went ahead and reserved my copy. It says it will download after July 29th but you don't have to install it right away. The biggest concern I have is my m-audio interface. m-audio as been really slow at releasing drivers. They don't even have a Windows 8.1 driver yet! Having said that, I have been running 8.1 without issue.

This is why I will never buy anything from M-Audio.  All of their legacy stuff is still great.

You can rest assured that The Bakers have copies of WIN10 and probably still have the open dialog with MS they've had for years. But I'm pretty sure it's not just a matter of running SPlat. I would evnture to say they have to make at least some changes to code to be forward AND backward compatible.

My music computer ain't hooked up to the internet - I have to plug it in.  I don't do it as often as I should, since once I do it there might be 20 minutes of updating or an hour.  That is one way to handle unwanted updating.

For all my Windows installations apart from the Windows DAW partition. I still trigger Windows update manually on that a few days after patch Tuesday when I get a chance, then I get the defragger out.

I have it set to automatically notify me that there are updates, and then I generally let them install at the end of a day.

I have made my reservation for the update on my DAW desktop and laptop.
The laptop is set for automatic updates - it's my guinea pig. The desktop is manually updated.

For sure I will be making a full image backup before the install.

My situation is probably different than most of you. For me this is just a hobby, not a business.
But I was an early adopter of Win 8 and 8.1 and did so via in-place upgrade from Win 7.
I had very little trouble with that from then until now. I have not had to re-install Windows, ever.
I build my own systems. I volunteer at a local Senior Center to give PC Tech support and I see all sorts of issues all the time.

I feel very comfortable debugging problems and I want to keep abreast of the latest things.

I see no reason to fear this new OS update. It is in MS's best interest that it be a success and it will be a great boon to developers to have only one Windows base to focus on, although that may take some time.

The reservation process claims to have inspected my devices and found no issues.

There may be several 'Metadata staging failed' errors in the Event viewer for those who have MS check for device updates. MS will be updating device checks so I expect these to go away eventually.

Meanwhile, I keep checking
www.eightforums.com/
for reports from beta testers.

This looks like it will be a pretty careful release.
Never before has MS allowed an update from anything other than the immediately prior OS version, so they have to be very careful to get this right.

I have always had lots of hard drives, partitions, and I have scattered bits and pieces of stuff here and there on various volumes for a long time.

That has sometimes been a source of problems in an update, but usually a regedit fix works.
I recommend Registrar Registry Manager from the makers of LatencyMon:
http://www.resplendence.com/registrar

This is great for bulk changes of paths.

I have re-located all the user special folders, the pagefile and swapfile, temp files, internet caches, etc.etc. across the 14 drive volumes I use (I wish 10 did away with those pesky drive letters).

Not bragging, just telling you that the upgrade from 7 to 8 and 8 to 8.1 caused few problems for me, so I'm not expecting any more from 10.

Yup. I fear no man or OS.
