Hi everybody!
I'm using SonarX1d. I'll record a midi part (e.g. drum line) in time with the music, but after I stop recording, the midi clip slips itself to the left by about 200ms. It's the first time I'm recording with my new computer, so it's likely got something to do with it. To troubleshoot I recorded some audio and thankfully, it tracks just fine.
 
Any ideas are much appreciated!

How does the project sound when it is played? Is there a noticeable offset to the ear? When the adjusted MIDI track is  rendered/bounced do the audio tracks from the drums match the expected time in the rendered audio. The shift of the MIDI track backward in time relative to the audio suggests that delay compensation has been applied to allow time for the buffer or processing delay of your drum synth or a plugin on that track to match the other tracks time. 

Hi! Yes, upon rendering and I can hear (and see) that's it's early. I fix it by snapping it forward to the next 8th note, which I can get away with for drum parts, but not everything obviously. The machine I'm using has 16GB of RAM which I think might be causing the issue. The drums are NI Battery, but it happens with Cakewalk's native True Pianos as well. Is there a way to modify or calibrate that buffer? Thanks for your time.

- What audio and MIDI interfaces?
- If MIDI is via a keyboard's USB interface, what keyboard?
- What's the Total Roundtrip latency reported under Preferences > Driver Settings?
- What's the source of the music you're playing along with while recording MIDI (i.e. audio tracks or other MIDI tracks driving soft synths)?
- Is that music in sync with SONAR's audio metronome while recording?
- Do you have any Timing Offset entered in references > Auido > Sync and Caching > Synchronization?

Total Roundtrip: 19.1 msec, 842 samples
The source of the music is other softsynths (that were recorded on my old computer), and a looped audio track.
Yes, that music is in sync with the metronome.
Under Sync, it's on Full Chase Lock with Timing Offset set to zero.
 
My guess is that I figure out exactly how many msec I'm off and then slide the offset forward?

Timing Offset only affects MIDI driving hardware synth, so it shouldn't be necessary to make an adjustment there. I just wanted to know all the potentially relevant settings. A big one I left out is audio driver mode. If it's not ASIO, you should switch to that, and make sure the Timing Masters for Playback and Recording are set to the M-Audio's drivers.

I have been running ASIO, with Playback and Record Timing Masters set to the Fast Track. I wonder what could be causing this? Never was a problem on the old computer. Thanks much for your ideas.
