Wow. I've been using Cakewalk products since the 90s because they always had good tech support. Now I find out you can't get help with Sonar X2 anymore. That sux and will definitely have a bearing on any future purchases of Cakewalk products.

I'm using Sonar X2a build 351 with a laptop, Windows 8.1 and a Cakewalk UA-1G. Everything worked good until recently when Sonar stopped seeing the UA-1G. The laptop sees it in my system and other apps work fine with it. Since I can't get help from them anymore, do any of you smart people know what I might try? Any advice would be greatly appreciated.

Hi.  Do you have the latest drivers for your audio interface? Did you do any updates lately? Do you have AV activated?  I do not have X2, so I am not sure how many updates that came with it. You can check for updates under: Help ] Check for Program Updates.
Best of luck.

[<font]Hi Zargg71. Thanks for your response. Unfortunately the problem still exists. I've checked to see the drivers are up to date for the UA-1G. I hate to sound like an idiot, but when you asked, “Did you do any updates lately?” Do you mean UA-1G updates, Windows 8.1 updates or Sonar X2 updates? I also don't know what you mean by, "Do you have AV activated?" AV is obviously audio/video but is that something in Sonar or Windows?  And how do you activate or un-activate it? The thing worked fine and it works fine with other programs on my laptop. I hooked the UA-1G up to my studio PC and it works fine with Sonar X2a.
[<font]It worked fine one day and then it didn't. Since I can't get help from Cakewalk, I think I'll try to re-install X2 on the laptop and see what happens. If that works, I'll return to this post in the hope that it might help some schmo like me in the future that also can't get support from Cakewalk. Regards, JGH

Regarding updates, I ment SONAR, audio interface and windows. AV means antivirus.
Best of luck.

AV, HA!  Anti-Virus of course, not audio video. Maybe I'm the reason tech-support guys go home after work and drink and kick their dog. :)

One thing that sometimes solves this problem is to uninstall and reinstall the device driver. That is a Windows process done via device manager, you can Google the process for your particular version of Windows (which you do not mention in your post). Another is to rename or delete the aud.ini file which Sonar will re-write on the next startup.

I have also noticed this with the UM-3g. In my case, i had unplugged cables to perform some PC maintenance and didn't remember to which port it was plugged.  I closed Sonar, swapped the plug to another port, waited a few seconds and restarted sonar.  It then found the UM-3G.  Hope you find a solution.

Alright! You guys are geniuses! Apparently the problem was with the aud.ini file that I figure specifies which USB port (which there are 3 on my laptop) to use when X2 opens. Although I read how to edit the file, and the explanation of each line's function in the file, I found nothing that mentions which USB port of the 3 to use. But Sonar does see the UA-1G if it is plugged into one particular USB port. I suppose the aud.ini file would have to be changed if I wanted to use a different port but I'm still not sure how to do that. So for now, I'll just use the one that works. That helped me solve this one fellas. I can't believe I'm the only one that ever had, or may have this problem in the future, so maybe this post will help them too. Thanks a million for your help.

It is not an AUD.ini setting it is a Windows thing. SONAR sees everything Windows reports. Windows does not like it when some devices are moved around.
