I'd love to be able to select drivers via presets.  Here's why.  In my current setup I have a MOTU 1248, UAD Twin USB, Line 6 Helix and a Roland GP-10 all with their own ASIO drivers. Currently my default setting is to have everything plugged into my MOTU as the selected driver but I'd like to be able to switch to the Twin or Helix or GP-10 as each of these devices have specific features that can only be selected via their drivers.  For example, I can easily re-amp via Helix ASIO drivers and with the GP-10, you can change the type of guitar model you are using via their drivers.

The problem is when going into Devices preference to change drivers, I am force to untick and then tick a bunch of boxes on both the input and output drivers I am deselecting and then selecting.  I'd like to be able to create driver presets that would let me just select either the MOTU, TWIN, Helix or GP-10 and have all the appropriate boxes ticked.  If possible, I'd like to be able to define separate presets for each device so I could have a preset called MOTU Lite and MOTU Everything.  Would save a lot of time and enhance workflow for those with multiple devices. The in development feature called Workspaces sounds like it might be a place this feature request can be added to if not already.

Cheers,

I have a similar situation with a 16x08 as my primary interface.  I also have a THR10, GT-001 and R24.  The THR and GT can both be controlled/configured via USB while the 16x08 is selected, so I end up taking audio outs of these devices to record via the 16x08.

Unfortunately, there are features such as re-amping or even just getting dry tracks recorded that can't be done this way.

In the past I've asked that device configurations be made per project so that project templates could be created to make starting projects (and switching between them) with different devices really simple.  I like your idea too, the only downside being that without per project device settings, opening a project created with one device preset while a different preset is selected would probably throw all of the I/O assignments hither & dither.

This would still be a step forward.

Hi Bob,

Having the driver presets saved as part of projects or templates would be great. Didn't think of that.  Thanks.

Per-project device settings might be a problem if you have 2 projects open at the same time. It's not often, but sometimes I open 2 projects if I need to copy something from one project to another.

Yeah, for me that would be less than 1% of the time.  I can't remember ever copying from one project to another.

I'm not saying that my use invalidates yours in any way.  Perhaps making per-project device settings an option would make everybody happy
