Can anyone summarize current problems encountered when freezing plugs in Sonar 8.5.3. I noticed the occasional thread when browsing but I didn't pay much attention because I never freeze them. Now I want to - unless weird things are going to happen.

Thanks - rev

You can simply unfreeze if there are issues.

From memory, it was unfreezing that had the issues! I only read such posts with a passing interest because I never used that feature but I seem to remember that some people had trouble unfreezing a frozen plug or the settings had changed when they unfroze. Something like that.

With some plugs it doesn't matter much if the settings have changed but when I've worked a long time on getting the drums right, I'd hate to lose all the work.

Then make a copy of the project, and test on the copy. Either way you have your answer.

That would provide an answer for that particular project but not all of them.

I guess I could copy each one just before opening them, it wouldn't take that long, I was just hoping someone had summarized the issues somewhere. Even if I found such a thread, I wouldn't know if the problems had been fixed but at least I'd know what to expect and possibly which plugs are prone to misbehavior.

It's not a big deal but my tracks have become more complicated over the years and sometimes I'd like to take a plug or two out of the loop without taking them out of the project.

I think part of the problem is trying to track down potential issues in a five year old version - always more difficult than more current versions.

I would personally recommend making copies of your existing tracks as backups and archiving them to save resources, then work with the unarchived versions from there.

I think that's exactly what I'll do.

Cool.  At least this way you have the backups and working copies all within the same project.
