..and use particular curves for particular applications? And if so, which curves do you use for which kinds of tracks? Inquiring minds want to know...

I confess: This equalizer throws me off a bit. I am used to using knobs on a parametric EQ. I always had a picture in my mind of what the curve "looked" like, but I basically adjusted by ear, and tried things I thought would work based on experience. The quad curve doesn't shape the curve as I expect it to, and half the time I end up dicking with the thing trying to figure out how it works. Of course, I am constitutionally unable to ignore the pretty picture and just use my ears, so I guess for a while I am destined to take twice as much time as I should on EQ settings. (PS: I like the thing. I'm not complaining.)

I just leave it at the default - hybrid. I have too many EQs and grab whatever I feel like at the moment. Not a very scientific approach for sure.

I only know fancy eq stuff by it's preset name. I have no idea how they got to it, but I understand airy male, breathy female etc. Three cheers for Nectar.

Just call me Preset Charly!

I guess what I am trying to say is I get simple eq, its' the fancy stuff with all the tweaks that go over my head.

For some reason I keep coming back to the G series I think, the last choice.  I'll start w/ the hybrid, and if that doesn't float my boat I run through the curves, and it is almost always the last one.

I don't use the pro-channel stuff much, I think the Waves SSL channel sounds better. It looks like it's got 2 SSL console EQ emulations (E and G). The E channel generally sounds sweeter IMO.
Personally, I don't want to see the EQ curve unless I'm doing precision cuts. Looking at a curve fools you into thinking you're doing too much or too little, I'd rather rely on my ears instead of my eyes.

I went back and took a look at the UI, and now I understand the question, and no, I have no idea what the difference is among the curves. I don't think it would make any difference to me, as I try to set up according to what I hear, and I don't have any antsy clients pushing me to go faster.

I always forget what emulations they're supposed to be, er, emulating, but I'll cycle through them sometimes to see if they make it "better" in some way. Same with Gloss. I'll flip it in now and again, but generally I stick to hybrid I think.

I was just asking this same question. My understanding is that it is the same EQ, just different way to represent it graphically and control it, because if you change position in one, it affects all others, so it is one, just different ways to look at it. I may be wrong.

I must say it would be a little easier if the curves were more plainly labeled, like "Pultec" or "SSL." I guess they have to be in code so the original manufacturers don't get uptight, but same with the console emulation. I wish they just said in plain English what console they are emulating.
