  • How Many Here Truly Understand the Difference Among the QuadCurve EQ Types... (p.4)

I always start with a preset when using Waves VEQ 3. IT gives a great starting point and usually I only make subtle changes from there. If the same ability was available via the Quad Curve I'd definitely use it.

I haven't really tried usung the Quad Core EQ because I like the vintage emulations I get from Alloy 2. Not to mention the presets they have as well. Now that you've asked the question I will give it a whirl. The only EQ I use in the Sonar entourage is Sonitus... as a high pass to kill outside noise from hardware or the laptop in and of itself.
I also have the Waves C-6, but I find myself using the Izotope as my goto EQ. But anything you can enlighten me on about Quad Core or total EQ from A-Z? I'm all for it.

Pure for buses so wide tiny sweeps..E/G for more individual feel and finxing on a track..Hybrid for all around EQ needs. My 3rd Party EQs are for their tonal qualities.

For really mission-critical mix decisions I always turn off my speakers and my screen and adjust EQ using the Force. I have a little pendulum I swing that tells me when it's just right. Except on a full moon, when the only way to really know for sure is by haru****y ... (Come on, click it. You know you need to know!)

Edit: That is way strange. The forum will not let me type that word. The missing letters are s, p, i and c. Why are those censored? No, don't explain, I get it, it just seems pretty heavy-handed... Here, let's try again: When I cook I use a lot of herbs and ****es. Interesting!

Hi subtlearts,
I know you said not to explain, but I'm gonna anyway. It's because those letters spell out a particularly derogatory term for a person of Central or Southern American heritage. Also why when I "suspect" something it censors the adjective form: su****ious.

Yeah...might be going a bit overboard....

I think you'll find the QuadCurve's lowpass and highpass filters more effective, because you can dial in 48 db/octave settings. To do that with the Sonitus I had to use several stages...much easier just to choose a slope and frequency.

My educated guesses/two cents...

I haven't noticed a coloration difference, but I THINK the base (1.3) Q and the shelving shape is based on the following models:

Pure: Based on the API 550 Series EQs
E/G Type: Based on the SSL E-series and G-series Console EQs, respectively.

Hybrid seems to be the E-type boost but with a narrower cut.

The only time I use a different EQ in mixing now is when I want more than one stage of EQ in the ProChannel. For that, I put FabFilter in an FX chain. But if you could have more than one Quad Curve per channel, I don't think I'd even use that.
I very occasionally use FabFilter or the Ozone EQ for linear phase purposes, but that's really rare.

I'm afraid I gave up on the PC EQ module on account of it being too small for my liking. Some here introduced me to FabFilter and that was it... Pro-Q all the way now, either on an individual track or a bus. Nice big display, spectrum pre and post, easy to understand and use and you can, if you wish, save presets.

Sorry.

I find the different curves useful, and make use of cutting with this EQ more than boosting. Having the E and G type curves gives you much of what the SSL E and G EQs gave us and that's useful. I don't recommend looking at the graph when using these two. 'Pure' is excellent for cutting and notching.

However, being able to use this EQ outside the ProChannel---and even outside Sonar would make it MUCH more valuable and useful to me. It's still easier for me to grab a 3rd-party EQ that does much of the same in the local channel FX bin than to have to access the ProChannel to use the EQ.
