Craig, this sounds like a great idea for Unsolved Mysteries: DAW Edition

OT - I am also looking forward to the chance to play around with the +10 db EQ.

I think it can do some quite interesting things - reminiscent of the Pultec trick, thanks to the fact that the bands work in parallel, rather than series.

What does anyone else find with this one?

Anyhow, back OT, sorry.

I'm afraid I gave up on the PC EQ module on account of it being too small for my liking. Some here introduced me to FabFilter and that was it... Pro-Q all the way now, either on an individual track or a bus. Nice big display, spectrum pre and post, easy to understand and use and you can, if you wish, save presets.

FYI Platinum has a flyout for the EQ that gives a really big display.

Thanks for the heads-up on that Craig.

However, I'm not planning on upgrading to Platinum yet, if at all. I'm reasonably happy with X2 and as total amateur I can't justify the cost at the moment.

Perhaps in the future

....I also like the idea of preset EQ settings, I did a bunch of presets for acoustic guitar that were included in one of the updates but it might be a good idea to do more. Unfortunately it's not possible to load presets for only the EQ, you have to do the whole ProChannel.

I long for the day when we'll get preset ability in the PC.

AFA the QuadCurve EQ goes, I generally set things by ear and then cycle through the various 'types' and chooses the one that sounds best.

I originally used this as a guide: http://blog.cakewalk.com/quadcurve-eq-demystified/

I use different curves based on the material, now prominent the item needs to be in the mix, etc. I may clone the same part two or three times, then use the different curves muting/unmuting between the interactions with different tracks. Personally, I really love the eq and the way it functions.

I think a bevy of presets would be awesome. When feeling experimental, I'll flip through presets to give me ideas that I may not have come up with myself.

I only use the quadcurve and now have stepped up to the Fab pro-Q2, which adds a bunch of things to the basic quadcurve approach.  Personally I primarily use EQ to carve out frequency space for various overlapping instruments in a mix.  I often just use quadcurve for this as it is so quick, quite nice to work with, and often does the job.  Pro-Q2 on master channel always and sometimes on other things.  I've got so many EQs that I've just settled on the graphically cool ones and seeing what it is doing to the spectrum is what I love about the Pro-Q2.  As to what the various settings do I think  Basseman summed up my thinking the best.

QUAD CURVE, I thought Craig was asking how many wavy lines I could make when I ride my Four wheel Honda Quad around the curves really fast.

Peace,

I worked it out but I still refer to the instruction manual every time just to make sure...the pure on mastering is a revelation!
