  • [Solved] Strange graphic/video issue when opening project

I've just installed SONAR Artist, and I'm seeing a peculiar issue that seems to be graphics related.

When I first open a project it seems the screen is not fully 'populated' (for want of a better term). See the first screen grab. In particular, the transport bar is blank, and there's an extra vertical scroll bar on the right.

If I hit 'i' to toggle the Inspector view (see screen grab 2 below) the transport bar appears properly, and that doubled scroll bar on the right goes away.

Looks like a graphics glitch of some sort? I have upgraded to the most recent Nvidia drivers, and did some reading here about the need for Windows Aero. Made sure it is enabled.

Anybody experienced this?

I am seeing other graphics freezes and program crashes that I think are related to whatever is causing this.

Thanks.

Going a bit further, playing around with a test file, I see some more strange graphics.

I suspect this is something to do with the way SONAR interacts with the Windows graphics system. Parts of the screen are not painted or refreshed?

Here's another:

After a few minutes of this stuff, SONAR becomes unresponsive to mouse or keyboard, and freezes.

SONAR is the only program with these issues.

Any troubleshooting suggestions welcome.

Hi,

I haven't experienced it.

There used to be an option "Use hardware acceleration" under Preferences / Customizations / Display but it isn't there anymore, at least in Sonar Platinum. You may want to contact support, maybe there is a hidden way to disable hardware acceleration.

Other than that I can only recommend the ususal steps:
- Update your graphics drivers
- Check your disk: Right click it in Explorer / Properties / Tools / Check
- Be sure there is enough space on the hard drive for pagefiles & co
- Delete you temporary files: Windows Key + R, %tmp%, Ok, ctrl-a to select all files, shift-delete, Yes.
NB: it is normal if not all files are deleted.
NB2 Do this when all applications are closed

Thanks to Cakewalk Support, in the person of Josh Kipersztok, I've tracked down the cause of this problem.

A freeware Windows Explorer add-on, FileBox Extender () was interfering with the graphics in SONAR.

Uninstalled it, and all is well. Thanks to Josh and to CedricM for his suggestions.
