Hi Peeps

I'm still using X2 I'm afraid, so perhaps things have moved on a bit...

I normally record my Controller Events (pitch wheel, mod wheel etc.) in real time.

Today, I want to draw modulation wheel events directly within the PRV.

When I select the straight line draw tool I select within the controller area and click my left mouse button. The draw function begins and I can draw a straight line between two points. I then let go of the mouse button and a series of controllers are drawn.

My "problem" is, the events drawn include every value , incremented by 1, between the two points I select. This creates a lot of events... Too many in my view, although I am sure that my system can handle it. But I know, from looking at my mod wheel controllers that are recording in real time, that such a high resolution is not required...

I could have sworn that there was a way of either specifying the resolution (number) of events drawn. Or at least a way of "thinning" them out somehow.

I've checked the Sonar X2 help file and it states:-

When you use the Draw tool, the speed with which you drag the mouse determines the density of controller events. To insert a larger number of controller events with relatively small changes in value, move the mouse slowly. To insert a smaller number of controller events with relatively large changes in value, drag the mouse quickly.

The thing is, this doesn't work... It doesn't matter how slow or fast I move my mouse, it still draws controller events in increments of 1.

I have seen a CAL script called "Thin Controller Data" and it seems to work, and I will use this for now, but I thought I ask the question, just in case there is an easier way or reducing the number of events drawn.

cheers

The "Thin Controller Data.cal" is the  method I use to thin controllers.  In fact I have made a multi purpose Studioware Panel that I have added this function to as a button.  If you are unable to create Studioware Panels, then you could always simply map a keystroke combination to run "Thin Controller Data.cal"

Hi promidi,

I've only ever used StudioWare panels for controlling external MIDI devices.

I'll have a look into that.

thanks

Have you tried drawing with Snap/Smart grid turned on?
