I've been using Cakewalk for years, but just getting started with Addictive Drums (I'm running AD2 in Sonar Professional).

I loaded AD2 into a project using multiple outputs.  I've got each channel of AD2 set to Separate Output.  AD2 works fine and I can hear everything, but I must be missing something about the process because I'm not able to independently control each kitpiece using the tracks that were automatically set up in Sonar.  I can see the meters running on the tracks, but if I mute the Kick track in Sonar, for example, I can still hear it.  The same non-result happens when I move the volume fader.

If I mute the Overhead and Room channels, then the Kick track mute and faders have some effect, but I don't see how that can be a practical solution since taking Overhead and Room out affects everything else in the kit as well.

What am I doing wrong?

thanks

Each kit piece has separate Overhead and Room level adjustments in the upper left of AD2 edit view.

And the possibility to route to both separate tracks, and master from within AD2.

meh
Also you may have the Main L&R, Overhead L&R, Room L&R, coming from AD mapped into the console view.  It was a little tricky at first but if you look in AD at the bottom of the Kit window there is a button for each output that you can assign the "track" on to the console view or not.  Play with this a little and I think will figure it out.

hope this helps

Yup, I'd love to figger that one out! Separate tracks without having to jump back to the AD GUI would be great!

Hello Everyone,

I too am having a problem with AD 2.  I am unable to route Cymbals to Sonar X3 channel inputs.   I have enabled all of the outputs in AD2 for SonarX3 to see as inputs, but I don't see any for Cymbals.

I have a old M-Audio Trigger Finger that I took out of storage again and decided to use with AD2.  AD2 is very simple to assign kit pieces to the Trigger Finger's 16 Pads by clicking the ?, selecting Map Window, and pressing the names of the kit pieces and their learn button.

I then went back to the Kit page and enabled the down arrow at the bottom if each track to allow the channel to send the kit piece audio to Sonar.

In Sonar I have the following input selection for Addictive Drums

Input = Addictive Drums 2 1 Kick = Left (Mono)
Input = Addictive Drums 2 1 Snare = Left (Mono)
Input = Addictive Drums 2 2 H-Hat = Left Mono)
Input = Addictive Drums 2 1 Tom 1 = Left (Mono)
Input = Addictive Drums 2 1 Tom 2 = Left (Mono)
Input = Addictive Drums 2 1 Tom 3 = Left (Mono)
Input = Addictive Drums 2 1 Tom 4 = Left (Mono)

I see inputs for Master, Flexi, Overhead, Room and Buss, However, I don't see Cymbals. Are they only available when using the Bus, Room and OH channels in the Mixer....  How do we rout the Cymbals into Sonar X3?

I just routed those channels and I got the Cymbals to come out of Sonar.  ( That idea was stupid on Addictive Drums part).  So in addition to what I have up top in Sonar, I have the settings below as well.

Input = Addictive Drums 2 1 Over Head = (Stereo)
Input = Addictive Drums 2 1 Room  = (Stereo)
Input = Addictive Drums 2 1 Bus = = (Stereo)

If this configuration looks incorrect to your or you have a better way of getting the Cymbals to come through Sonar, please let me know.

Peace,

Jesse g

Cymbals aren't mic'd individually, but with the overhead pair

joyof60,

Open AD 2 as a synth and when the Soft Synth options page appears, click All Synth Audio Output as one of the options so the AD2 Channels will appear in Sonar.

In Addictive Drums click on the Kit Window  after you have selected your drum kit or preset.  At the bottom of the mixer are downward grey arrows for each channel on the mixer.  click on the arrow and they will become orange.

Now in Sonar, go to each of the AD tracks listed, except for the sole Midi track,  and select the channel input and you will see Addictive Drums listed as an input option.  Select it and you will see all of the kit pieces you can set as input for Sonar.  Only choose MONO for each kit piece and alternate Left and Right IE, (left Snare, Right Tom1, Left Tom2 and so on...)

Play your kit back through AD2 and you should see your meters indicating the channel your sound is coming through.

Peace,

Thanks Kamikaze,
Yea, I sort of realized that when I enable the output for the OH, Room, and BUS and was able to hear the cymbals finally.  Oh well, I did learn some other tricks though.

Peace,

Through pure laziness on my part, I never figured out what the "bus" output is for. When I use individual outs, I do it the way I also do a real drumkit.
Kick, snare top and bottom, however many toms there are, hats, overhead L/R and room L/R.
