Regarding the VS-700R interface, a Sweetwater tech had a theory—based mainly on the process of elimination—that all or most of the weird issues I have had with Sonar are related to the VS-700R interface.  His theory was that some bad code in the firmware caused a lot of issues.

I never believed that and never even powered up the MOTU interface in my rack.  This thread has made me think that maybe I was too hasty in my judgment.

When I switched to TASCAM's US-4x4 SONAR X3e became much more reliable. With Platinum, I'm still waiting for my first crash.

I always had my reliable RME interface for my audio, I only own the console. So I cannot judge on the whole VS700 stack. My setup has proved to be very stable.

Yet, I suddenly do have the master fader issue... My most educated guess is that this has something to do with my installation. I am guessing (but had no time to really check) it is a driver/plugin issue. Still, as mentioned before, this issue is not a show stopper for me.

Anyhow, not VS-700R related as far as I can see.

I didn't mean to hijack the thread, but this is very interesting stuff.

I am going to set up the MOTU 896 mk3 (because it's here).  I am also going to assume (or rather hope) that when I upgrade to the current Sonar version, my VS-700C console will still work.

Thanks for all the good comments.

Works fine here, but don't forget to download the VS-700C-specific driver from the Roland web site, and read the instructions because you have to change a DIP switch position on the back.

Interesting that the master fader thing is an old bug. Because it's never happened to me before the new Sonar, and I use the v700 every day. Which is suggestive that there's some obscure setting somewhere that makes it happen, maybe.

Indeed, it never happened to me before either. However, before installing the platinum update I did a very thorough clean-up, by which I might have inadvertedly thrown away the very thing that prevented this from happening... After having my first problems I installed the 1.2 version of the plugin, but maybe somewhere there is a newer version around?

I've had the same plugin for ages, so that can't be the difference.

It's not a big deal, this, but it has sparked my curiosity. When I get a minute, I'm going to doa  side by side comparison of all my platinum setting and ini files and what have you with the same ones in X3. Could be an instructive exercise (or a nerdy waste of time, who knows?)

I have sonar platinum connected with my Vs700 control surface when I open a project and press the console button on the vs7000 control surface it only opens the console half screen, that is it displays half the control surface view and half tracking view. Can someone tell me how can I get the console to open at full view when i press the control button on the vs700 control surface. This use to work fine in sonar x3e for me but for some reason it seems to be broken in platinum.
Help please?

Appreciated in advance

try SHIFT+TRACK and SHIFT+CONSOLE to jump between maximized versions of track cview and consle view ... that usually works ...

OK, so I have the same issue, having uninstalled X3, then installed Platinum with the "Command Center," which never asked me about the VS-700C that I'm still intending to use. I downloaded and successfully reinstalled the VS-700C v. 2.0.1 drivers from Roland. Now I still don't see the VS-700 as a control surface option in Sonar Platinum. I do see my VS-700 console as in/out port options, though. Where can I download the plugin needed to make the VS-700 show up?
