I mean VS-700 CSP v1.2 update link. Just a guess, I do not have the device.

I have a VS-700 (interface and console).  To be clear, if I upgrade from X1d to the current version, will my VS-700 continue to work normally, or will I have to do something to get it going?

I had absolutely no problems with this. Installed Platinum and everything just carried on working.

Actually the driver I needed (and already had installed) was at a link that I'm not allowed to post here apparently (deleted by Gibson?) - but it's on the Roland site. I'm running Windows 8.1 and just using the console. But all (and more up-to-date) drivers are at: (that Roland site I can't reference here apparently). But someone mentioned a "plugin" that was needed as well. I don't have that, and, again, in my preferences, the VS-700 does NOT show up as an option for a control surface. I think I know why: in the folder C:\Program Files\Cakewalk\Shared Surfaces there are many dll files, including VS100.dll, MackieControl.dll , etc. but NOT vs700.dll .Apparently this is a worldwide problem, as you can see by searching Google for "VS-700 SURFACE IM NEUEN SONAR WEG. WIE DIE ACT-CONTROL-SURFACE WIEDER IN SONAR ANMELDEN?" . So I just re-installed X3 and now I can use my VS-700 in Platinum. It should not be this way, though.

Same here, konradh. no problems when coming from an existing Sonar installation.

Do you still have the X3 installer somewhere? The VS-700 was a "special option" in the installer. You could try to run the X3 installer, but only check the VS-700 option but nothing else ...

In the link I have posted early there is an installer for VS700 Control Surface Plug-in (a bit outdated, 2010). The latest DLL can be found on https://github.com/Cakewalk/Cakewalk-Control-Surface-SDK/tree/master/Bin
but there was some reports it does not work for everyone (most probably some MS RunTime is not in the system, installers have required version inside while separate DLL does not).

I did that yesterday and it didn't work.

So, my solution so far is to do a full install of Sonar X3, then use only Sonar Platinum. That does allow the control surface to be recognized and to work. Also, it's the 2013 version of the VS700.dll, which is what you want.

That German link advises you to install X3, then copy the VS700.dll file from C:\Program Files\Cakewalk\Shared Surfaces and save it somewhere, then uninstall SonarX3, then put VS700.dll back into C:\Program Files\Cakewalk\Shared Surfaces, and run from a command line:

regsvr32 “C:\Program Files\Cakewalk\Shared Surfaces\VS700.dll”

to make sure that the system recognizes it. At that point, you'd have nothing from X3 clogging your system.

Right now I don't want to uninstall X3 though, because with Platinum it also appears that you lose a few other goodies from X3 that I liked. I'm sure one of them will eventually cause a problem, though, so I am ready to nuke X3 as needed.

This isn't my post but thanks to everyone who responded to my question.  Sounds like I should save copies of the dll files in a separate location and note where they go (just in case) and the go straight to Platinum.

- If the control surface stops working, I will be very upset by I can operate.
- If the VS-700 interface quits working, I have a brand new MOTU 896mk3 sitting in the rack.  I think I have links to drivers somewhere.  (Long story why I have this, but it has never been used except to power on and verify that we got power and lights.)

Worst of all worlds is that the Roland studio quits working and then I can't get the MOTU up, but that seems unlikely.  There are lots of MOTUs out there running in the world.
