  • Audio driver settings in MacBook Pro / Bootcamp?

I have a mid-2014 MacBook Pro (16gb RAM, 1TB SSD) running Bootcamp with Windows 8.1.  I'm trying to move to this machine from my ancient PC.  From Cakewalk, I can only get sound in MME and WDM/KS modes, but both have pretty terrible latency.  I tried ASIO, but I can't get any sound with that set.

Is there a standard recipe to get this working, or should I give up and go back to Logic Pro X?

I ran Sonar on a boot camped mac for a few years and it works just fine. I am guessing that the issue you are having is trying to use the internal sound card. The only solution for asio drivers (and it is NOT a good one) is to run the dodgy asio4all driver.

To achieve decent latencies use any external sound card designed for music production. There are so many affordable options now. Check out the Behringer options if you are on a budget. It will make a huge difference on both the Mac and Windows sides of your macbook.

You're correct.  I was trying to use the internal sound card (mainly for convenience, being a laptop).  I have a Presonus Fire Studio Mobile that I'll try with it soon to see if that helps.  Thanks for the help.

Quick update - I ended up getting a great deal on a new Steinberg UR22 USB audio interface.  I'm up and running smoothly in Win8.1 x64 under Bootcamp on the MacBook Pro now.  Latency is no longer a problem, and I have a simple-enough setup with a bus-powered audio interface.  I would have preferred something a little smaller, but at the price point, the unit was too hard to pass up.

Good to hear Joe:) Not a bad idea switching to a USB interface either. I recently did so and find I have to worry far less about driver/chip compatibility. My endless search for Texas Instruments chips on laptops is finally over! Firewire seems to be all but dead on Windows machines, though your mac of course still has thunderbolt.
