I actually have three of the AUD.INI files that are each followed by 10 numerical digits. Should I rename all?

Ok, I've successfully reinstalled the drivers for the Octa-capture, and I renamed the aud.ini files to aud.bak. Octa-capture shows to be functional (I'm able to access the GUI and manipulate controls there) but I'm back to square one with Sonar hanging at the splash screen. I'm really wide open to suggestions.

Ok, so I have been wanting an upgrade anyway. So I just bit the bullet and upgraded to sonar Pro. Well...it loads, but doesn't recognize my interface (octa-capture) with ASIO drivers? I feel like I Just threw a bucket of money out the window. Maybe I did, I dunno, anybody got any ideas?

The part that stand out to me is services being stopped that were restarted. SONAR cannot use anything not recognized by Windows.

If you open "Change Sound Card Settings" (type that in the search field above the Windows Start button), with the Octa-Capture online, does Windows recognize the Octa-Capture? Win7 tries to take control of devices, so if it appears there, select "properties" and then "Advanced" on that next window. The two check boxes in the "Exclusive Mode" box may need to be unchecked (or vice versa). This also needs to be done on the "Recording" tab if is the issue.

From your posts it seems that Win7 is up to something. Another thing to try is open Windows Explorer and right click your C:\ drive, then select "Properties." On that pop-up window, choose the "Tools" tab at the top, and click "Check Now" under the "Error Checking" This will require a reboot (cannot be performed with Win7 actively running), and will force Win7 to "validate itself" on the next reboot (may take several minutes to perform).

Workin on it Mettle! Thanks so much! I know windows see the octa-capture in devices, and it is set as the default device for playback and recording. I'm giving the validation a shot though! Thanks for being patient with me!

I know windows see the octa-capture in devices, and it is set as the default device for playback and recording.

That in itself can be good enough reason for Sonar to not show the device as it thinks it's in use by another program (Windows in this case).  From past experience the "Allow windows to share audio devices" or whatever the setting is called has been hit and miss at best.  Sonar likes exclusive access.

Personally I set Windows to use the on-board sound and reserve the audio interface for Sonar only.

Ditto ... then I take the output of both and feed a Samson C-Control for sharing speakers ... or not :)

I just plug a S/Pdif cable from the onboard sound to my interface to give single button source selection and direct digital recording of any audio in Windows (youtube, etc.) for guide tracks.
