My board is not the latest but it is a dual core AMD, AM2x64 2.2ghz running XP Pro (32bit) service pack 3.

I run an Aark24 and an Aark 20/20. Both of these use the same PCI host card as the Q10 and everything works fine. I even tried them in my friends machine. He was using XP64 and the cards actually worked (which shocked me LOL).

My view on Aardvark sound cards; If they work, great, and use them. If they are giving you problems, switch cards immediately. Dont wast your time.

I ran a Q10 and LX6 on my P4 2.8 piece o crap for a few years and they worked great. When I upgraded my PC they fell flat on there face with lockups, crashing etc even with massive trouble shooting. I picked up my current Motu card and never looked back.

Lay In Wait,

The problem is that money is tight. I'm out of work like many of us. I'm just thinking of ways to make money right now, not spend it. But if there are that many compatibility problems with newer components, maybe I'll just look for not so new components. I'm still using an AMD XP2600+ w/1.25 GB RAM, and still able to record all 16 tracks (2 Q10s) simultaneously. Of course, when I start mixing and adding plugins, that's when I feel the pain.

Joe;

I completely understand your position, trust me I was there when my Aardvark setup turned to poo. I was broke and lived with the problems for far too long. If you can hunt down something newer (as in maybe something with updated drivers) for a decent price you might be better off.

edit to add; I know this doesn't help much, sorry.

Bladefish,

You could always go for the cheap upgrade: Find out the highest cpu chip your motherboard will support (that you can afford). If it offers enough of a jump in horsepower from what you currently have, then all you need to do buy the chip, flash to the latest BIOS, and swap cpu's.

Of course, you don't have to get the absolute highest rated cpu -- most important is finding the "best bang for your buck".

The beauty of this plan is that you can buy the cpu on Ebay, then sell your old one and recoup some of the cost.

No matter what you decide --

Good luck,
JD

I completely agree. I have been lucky so far. I did have some problems with the Aark24 when Sonar 7 came out but I was able to work through them.

I know I am living on borrowed time with the Aardvarks. I fear the next upgrade will be the end of the line for them. Since I am skiping the Sonar 8 upgrade, I'll get another year out them. Sonar 9 will probably mean their retirement. I haven't given much thought to their replacements yet. I'm not sure I need that many inputs any more...

I bought a Q-10 when it first came out back in 2002, and it was great, but as these guys said, a newer PC won't be able to to host it. I had so many problems with it I eventually sold it about 6 months later.

Thanks guys.
The XP2600+ actually is the highest rated CPU for my mobo. That's how old it is. I figure upgrading the mobo and CPU is the most efficient and cost effective way to boost my rig. I just won't get the latest greatest thing out there. Meaning the best I can get that is compatible with all of my peripherals.

I have an Aarvark Q10 that I used to run with my old Athlon XP system if anyone's still interested. It was rock solid.
