Hi Guys,

I need some recommendations for the best way to create life like, high quality strings that sound like Arab strings,

Similar to what is provided with the Sultan Strings sample package,

http://www.sonokinetic.ne...ssical/sultan-strings/

I need to write my own strings part and I need a good Virtual instrument to do it with. It must have support for that sliding/bending effect that arab strings always have.

Any advice?

The sound would be very hard to nail, which is why Sonokinetic has gone with a phrase library. Certainly most string libraries do not cover those types of articulations. There is also a certain tone to the strings that is different to western strings. You may have a few more answers if you ask the question in the techniques forum.

If you are after inspiration check out Mohamad Hamami and the Sharq Orchestra. I saw them play in Dubai last year they were superb. http://mohamadhamami.com/home.htm

I don't know man, I come from Israel and a lot of arab artists over there have these keyboard synthesizers that can imitate that sound pretty well. I'm just trying to recreate it with in a more controlled environment with Midi and a VST Instrument.

Have you tried searching the KVR database?
http://www.kvraudio.com/get.php

It might turn up something.

Also googeling Middle east strings vst brings up quite a few hits.

Yes but there seems to be a glitch in that particular preset. It sounds fine but doesn't record the right note information. So if you want to record the sitar, I would recommend connecting a cable from an output in your soundcard into another input or find some other way to record the audio. Of course then you will only record audio, and not MIDI data.

The cakewalk sound center just released a WORLD instruments add on sound pack..... I've not had the opportunity to explore it all, but there are a number of stringed instruments in it. The bends are obtainable with any keyboard that has a pitch bend wheel on it.

I used a Japanese stringed instrument and the pitch wheel on my keyboard to get the traditional bends in the notes.
