Can someone help please?

In a new project I inserted an Dim Pro Synth as an instrument track and used the step sequencer to create a violin part. Now I want to add a Cello, (and then even more instruments) Do I need to insert another instance of Dim Pro?
Thank you!

I am not a big Synth user but if you have enough RAM power to run a few instances you can do that.

Another option is to Freeze the track if you are happy with it then add another Instance of Dim Pro

I cant offer much advice on this as I dont use synth much aart from maybe one instrument or a sound clip

I am pritty sure there is a way to do this though

Sorry

It's standard practice to use a separate instance of DimPro for each instrument.  It's the loaded multisamples that take up RAM space rather than DimPro itself.

However, it is possible to insert 4 different instrument into one single instance of DimPro, and have each Element respond to a different channel number (i.e. 1-4).  To do this, click the Options button and select "Set Progam as Multitimbral".  However, unless you wish to control 4 instruments from the same midi track, there are no other advantages to doing this.  Also, this mode of use rules out using programs that rely on more than one single Element.

Thanks for the help!

Hey Kev - I've only done audio recording so far, and then add drums with session drummer (actually the drums first of course) and bass with Dim Pro either using the Piano Roll View or the Step Sequencer. I never thought about about MIDI I've been so interested in the audio recording. I do have a keyboard in the house with MIDI ports. Can I set that up to play along with my recording and create a MIDI track through Dim Pro say for bass, just as though I were adding another audio track to my project?

First, I recommend that you place your system specs in your signature so we can better help you, as we know very little about what gear you have or what DAW software you're using, and we have hardly anything to go by to give you better help.

You need a MIDI interface and standard MIDI cable to connect your MIDI keyboard to the computer. An audio interfaces usually has a MIDI In/Out on it, so if you have an audio interface with a MIDI input on it, you can use that to connect your keyboard MIDI out to the MIDI in on your audio interface.

Once your MIDI keyboard is connected to the computer, you go to SONAR Preferences options to select the MIDI Input and output.

If you want to add a bass track to your project using Dimension Pro just insert an instance of Dimension Pro.

For SONAR X1: One way to Insert a SoftSynth is to go to the toolbar at the top left hand side in SONAR and select Insert/SoftSynth/Dimension Pro

When the Soft Synth Option dialog comes up, select Simple Intrument Track and Synth Properties Page, and hit OK.

In the Dimension Pro Properties page, browse to a bass sound you want to use and select it, click on the Simple instrument track to make sure it's selected, and play your MIDI keyboard and you should hear the Bass sound play. (If not, make sure the MIDI channel for the track and your MIDI keyboard are the same.)

To record what you are playing with the MIDI keyboard, enable the Record button on the Simple Instrument track by clicking on it, then hit the R key on your qwerty (PC) keyboard to start recording, play on the MIDI keyboard and what you play will be recorded (as MIDI events on the Simple Instrument track), and hit the spacebar to stop recording.

Hope that helps.

Also, make sure your MIDI track's output is selected to Dim Pro.
