Make sure your metronome is assigned to the main outs 1/2  or a headphone bus, but not to the Master bus.
You can configure this in Edit > Preferences> Devices, by selecting the outputs you want enabled in Sonar to use as your headphone out.  Then, while still in preferences, go to the Metronome settings and select the output for the metronome as the outs you enabled in Sonar as your headphone outs.   Just connect it to a headphone amp if you have one, or go to a audio store and get a "Single Stereo 1/4" TRS Female to Dual Mono 1/4" TS Y Breakout Cable" to plug your headphones into the back of your audio device, if you have the available outputs on the back of it.

If using an open mic to record and you have the metronome coming through the speakers, you may receive bleed over from the metronome into the Mic.  The use of the method presented above is great from stopping the audio from the metronome being captured by the open mic.

Yea it's been a while. I had Kidney Failure and was placed on Dialysis 5 years ago. So three days a week I spent 5 hours in a Dialysis center in addition to still working 9 hour days,  so I didn't have much free time. I looked at the Cakewalk site every once in a while when I needed some help with Sonar.   However I kept me Saturdays open for recording when I could.
 
I just had a Kidney transplant in April, so I am home recovering until July.  Hey, I have nothing else to do but catch up with my mixes. and learn this Sonar X3 I purchased but didn't have the time to learn its new features.
